Disney's Beauty and the Beast is a typical side-scrolling platform game based on the Disney movie of the same name. The player takes on the role of Beast. As Beast the player can walk around, jump and hit enemies with his fists. Beast can also climb against walls. The levels feature various power-ups that can be collected (such as hearts which earn the player extra life and a magnifying glass which shows the player an upcoming piece of the level) which can be and on the way the player must watch out for pit traps and various enemies.

Beat on Normal. It was a good thing the game and levels were short because the gameplay was not good. Beast had sluggish controls without being able to animation cancel or move while mid air. He needed to be moving forward to get any distance in jumping, and the enemies were very cheap. Add in some instant deaths. I never would have put up with this without save state scumming every 5 seconds. I died from time limit on the very first level and during my first attempt at the first boss. This time limit was at odds with the slow and deliberate pace I had to take to get past enemies and hazards without taking too much damage. I also got stuck on the first level and had to look at a guide to see that the roar revealed platforms. Too bad this mechanic was dropped after the first set of levels. The first boss was actually creative with using the look up function to see where he would drop. By the time I got to the second boss I figured out how to do a ground pound attack, which helped with that boss. It seemed like the levels …

It seemed like the levels after the first boss were easier. Then came the snowball catching, which was beyond retarded. It was completely different gameplay and failing to catch 3 balls took away a life. Who thought this was a good idea? As a bonus minigame for extra lives, sure. But not as a mandatory level. I would rather redo any of the levels or bosses again than play stupid snowball catch. There were fewer levels as the game went on and soon enough I was at the final boss. It was a matter of jumping over his arrows, punching, then jumping away from his cheap counter punch.

The only things good about this game were the graphics, music and boss mechanics. The gameplay was mediocre at best and really needed more mechanics, more combat moves or powerups, more enemies and longer levels.
