Great Spin-off, wish there were more spin-offs like it

Already played through the entire game once, but decided to revisit it and it's still a super enjoyable game. The story is pretty simple and straightforward, you just have to capture all the other ''towns'' while trying to get the perfect pokemon for your warriors (The turn-based fighting mechanic is pretty fun, I like that you can take your time planning out the best route for all of your pokemons. Definitely worth playing if you haven't yet, it's not easy to get into but hard to master!) Also, the post game stories that unlock after beating the main story are super cool to play out and actually difficult.

Solid Turn Based Tactics Meets Pokemon

I have long heard this is the best Pokemon Spin Off game, I disagree, that spot belongs to Pokemon Snap, but this is a close second.

I have long heard this is the best Pokemon Spin Off game, I disagree, that spot belongs to Pokemon Snap, but this is a close second.

Pokemon Conquest feels like if you wanted to play Fire Emblem, but with Pokemon, and it works way better then it should. Typing with Pokemon creates a natural similarity to the counter play between weapon types most fire emblem games have. Evolution, gaining attacks, etc. all add some great progression to your team.

The tactics as a whole are pretty solid, with terrain coming into play, and a varied team of users being very important. I found certain Pokemon's attack patterns less useful then others, but it meant I really loved finding new ones to try out.

The story feels deeper then most Pokemon games, but still has the "chasing the legendary pokemon" flair. Starting out you have a basic campaign that serves mostly like a tutorial, but still takes like 14-18 hours, with some legitimately challenging encounters. However, once you beat this initial campaign, it opens up 6 different scenarios that you can then try which are mini campaigns, this gives the game a LOT of play time.

There are some frustrating parts to this game though. Its not very clear when or how Pokemon evolve, they just sort of do after a certain point, which makes progression feel harder to plan.

The game encourages you to swap around Pokemon partners, to find ones your warrior bonds with best, but because only a handful of Pokemon spawn in an area at a time, this process can be more then a little frustrating. Overall, this meant that progressing my team of warriors isn't very clear, but I am guessing there are some decent tutorials online.
