I'm struggling with this one. On the one hand, it's stylish and often fun, but on the other hand, the control scheme is so terrible that almost ruins the whole experience and some bosses are so boring. The directional inputs for basic stuff like dodging simply don't work and dante moves like he's stuck in molasses the whole time.

There's bad bosses, but that flying worm thing takes the cake as particularly awful. It feels like the devs put it there as an afterthough to pad out the gameplay a bit.

Then there's the Brothers, who are charming and fun to fight. I like how they can damage each other.

I will be the 1st to admit this game kicked my ass. Like I'm not talking about a normal ass kicking im talking about brutal ass kicking. I got stuck on some parts of the game but overall still had a good time as a big fan of MVC 3 it was nice to see where all the weapons skill came from when it came to this game. IT was also awesome to see that natural progression of it and the only complaints I really have about this game are rectified in the other titles. The Bosses are cool and interesting the art style is fun and The Virgil fight wanted me to slam my head against a wall for 3 hours cause I suck.

I feel like Vergil in DMC3 is better than his later counterparts. Not objectively or anything. I just feel like he fits my personal play style more. That is, efficiency over style. I feel like Vergil in DMC3 is better than his later counterparts. Not objectively or anything. I just feel like he fits my personal play style more. That is, efficiency over style. He's more straightforward, he has less moves but they're all fast and damaging. He's seriously an all round destructive machine. To the point and no messing around, yet balanced enough that playing as him doesn't feel like cheating. DMC5 and DMC4 especially both had versions of vergil that were WAAAAY too broken, so he made the game too easy. I feel like DMC3 is just right. And as I said, he fits my play style more of not messing around and just getting to the point.

What do you guys think?

I feel like replying Devil may cry 3's vergil campaign on dmd right now. I'm in the mood to feel cool playing katana man.

I first tried this game after having a great time with the first DMC during the pandemic, and just wasn’t feeling the style and challenge at the time. Now after returning to it lately I actually do like both of those elements, but feel like the game increasingly feels too long and starts boring me between its bigger fights and cutscenes. I also still don’t really get much enjoyment out of the series’s style-based score play even though I spent time learning more about it outside the game this time to appreciate it from a distance. So I still prefer the baseline Normal mode experience I had with DMC 1 and 5, and still am not really feeling like getting in deep with DMC through multiple playthroughs like you’re clearly supposed to, but at least now I have enjoyed some of the key elements of this one.

A Certified Classic That Sags a Bit in the Middle

While I'm not totally convinced Devil May Cry 3 is the masterpiece I heard it was, it certainly was a damn good time. I've never been all that great at hack n' slash games but I keep playing them anyway, and this one was more than happy to kick the shit out of me. Pretty tough game, but the kind …

While I'm not totally convinced Devil May Cry 3 is the masterpiece I heard it was, it certainly was a damn good time. I've never been all that great at hack n' slash games but I keep playing them anyway, and this one was more than happy to kick the shit out of me. Pretty tough game, but the kind that rewards perseverance.

Here are my scores on each mission! I uh... guess I'm a B-tier DMC player, if nothing else.

enter image description here

DMC3 definitely feels like a massive improvement over the previous game (it was a very low bar) and also feels like it outdoes the first game in every way except maybe that sweet medieval castle atmosphere. The cutscenes are a joy to watch and the variety of weapons and combat styles gave me much more than I could reasonably explore in a single playthrough.

I do feel that the game is a bit overlong. There are a few chapters near the end (14-18, mainly) that feel padded with backtracking and refighting bosses. I was pretty close to giving it 4 stars as a result but the game does pick back up in those final couple missions and I liked the ending so much I couldn't bring myself to knock off the last star.

And come on, like, he said the thing!! Almost... sorta...

I get why this seems to be the fan favorite of the franchise, even if it isn't mine. It holds up pretty well and is worth a play for any fans of hack n' slash games. It is a bit difficult to be someone's first foray into the genre though, so I might recommend one of the later entries first if you have yet to dive into a game of this style. But hey, if you're a masochist, go for it.

NOTE: I've played this on the HD Collection, but hey it's DMC 3 SE after all.

[ENG] With every video game franchise, there will always be a low point for each one, & Devil May Cry is no different with the abomination of a sequel, Devil May Cry 2. As Devil May Cry 2 ruined the franchise, the sequel to DMC 2, Devil May Cry 3, left an everlasting impression of one of the most iconic rivalries in any video game while massively improving on its predecessors. Aside from the iconic lines and gameplay, there is a reason to why many consider Devil May Cry 3 the peak of the franchise. So, if you enjoy hack & slash games, there is no reason you shouldn't play it. (unless you hate backtracking but that's really minor) Overall, this is one game you must play before you die due to how iconic & revolutionary it is.

[RUS] У каждой франшизы видеоигр всегда будет низкая точка, и Devil May Cry ничем не отличается от отвратительного продолжения, Devil May Cry 2.

This game actually saved the franchise.

All around great game and the most defining game for DMC. The addition of the Style System helped define Dante as a character, as well as his personality. All around great game and the most defining game for DMC. The addition of the Style System helped define Dante as a character, as well as his personality. Vergil is also a well done villain and perhaps one of the best rivals in video game history. What would normally be seen as cringeworthy (him using a katana, wearing a trench coat, being so antisocial) if it were done anywhere else, but the style of the series as well as the fact that he genuinely is a badass and the game doesn't once try to make him look both as your superior, but also your equal. He's the archetypal hack n' slash rival.

Voto: 8/10

I'm near the end of the game and I have a question.

Is it... 'normal' that Dante has been a complete asshole during all the game?

I remember him being sassy and fun in the first DMC but, DAMN, he's annoying in this one.

pretty fun but really rough around the edges.
