Didnt like the artstyle so much at first but it grows on you. The story really turns out a lot darker, with a lot of symbolism. The platforming and all gameplay stuff really sucks. This game really managed to create a certain atmoshpere with the music and the unreliable narrator tho, which to me was an excellent expereince that overshadoed the gameplay issues.
Visually this game is a masterpiece. Obviously inspired by Adventure Time with a generous seasoning of cronenbergian biotech and lovecraftian horrors (so... pretty much Adventure Time, I guess), the world of Minute of Islands is both beautiful and disgusting. Every scene is filled with vibrantly-coloured small little details and gentle curves that are a feast to the eyes, but they give shape to horrific images, such as dead and rotting whales being consumed by fungi.
The sound design is on par with the visuals. The loud humming roars guide you to down to the deep caverns filled with ancient machines and deep-breathing giants.
The main downside is that it kind of plays like shit. Your character movement is not only a bit on the slow side but it's also not fluid at all. There's a small delay between actions that is very hard getting used to. Fortunately, this is no Celeste, so the less than tight platforming is not that much of a problem.
The game not only is gorgeous but it also sounds spectacular. The low hummig of the biomechanical caverns is amazing.
It's light on gameplay, though, and the platforming is... stiff and slow. But the visuals carry it forward.
Love every single frame of this game. It's a treat for the eyes.
