Lost Odyssey is set in a world in which a "Magic-Industrial Revolution" is taking place. While magic energy existed in all living creatures beforehand, it suddenly became far more powerful thirty years before the beginning of the game. Because of this, it has affected society greatly, with devices called "Magic Engines" harnessing this power for lighting, automobiles, communication, and robots, among other uses. While previously only a select few could wield magic, many magicians gained the ability. However, such progress has also caused two nations to develop new and more powerful weapons of mass destruction. The kingdom of Gohtza and the Republic of Uhra (which recently converted from a monarchy). Uhra is building Grand Staff, a gigantic magic engine, while the heavily industrialized Gohtza actively pursues magic research of their own. A third nation, the Free Ocean State of Numara, remains isolated and neutral, though it is falling into disarray due to a general attempting to stage a coup d'etat. Uhra, at war with Khent, a nation of beastmen, sends its forces to the Highlands of Wohl for a decisive battle at the start of the game. Read less

Holy mother of god, this is the hardest JRPG I've played since I can remember.... the first boss can easily kill someone's party, and thankfully it did not mine. Now the second boss, however, will almost certainly wipe someone the first few times.....it did me anyway. 3 or 4 attempts to kill the second boss, and man was it ever …

Now the second boss, however, will almost certainly wipe someone the first few times.....it did me anyway. 3 or 4 attempts to kill the second boss, and man was it ever rewarding. I don't even like difficult games anymore because of my patience and frustration I get when playing them, but I also saw online that this game gets easier as progression is made, which is great!

But so far, this is a JRPG I wish I would have gotten on 360 17 years ago!!

Happy gaming Tuesday!!

Session 2. This game is apparently huge so it might take me a while. Just going to enjoy my time with it. Love me some JRPGs, and FF7 Rebirth was so good I must have more JRPG!

This one appears to run at 60fps on the series X, and it looks gorgeous for an older game.

Hope everyone's week is …

So far, 2 hours into Lost Odyssey and it's the typical fun JRPG with beautiful music composed by the one and only Nobuo Uematsu! The visuals and voice acting are also top notch. I'm pretty sure this game is going to turn out amazing. What a nice little evening on the Xbox with some wonderful games enter image description here

Going to start some more backlog before I start Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Farcry 5. And I'm going to start with Lost Odyssey, which has been on my Xbox account for God know how long now. I need to finally play this old Xbox 360 gem, and I am looking forward to another wonderful JRPG experience.

I have some thoughts on this character design, lol. On paper, I really like all of the ideas at play here, but ultimately I think it looks pretty bad.

In regards to the actual person, I like her design. It's pretty surprising to see what I'm reading as a black woman as a major character in a JRPG, particularly one from 2008, and i think she looks pretty cool. I like her hairstyle in theory, but the way its rendered is kinda bad, but that is a consistent issue with everyone's hair so far. I think they just hadnt figured out a good way to render hair at all.

The outfit looks really ugly, but I think I see what they were going for and I really like the concept. It reminds me of the fancy dress mixed with bits of armor seen in the design of Shionne from the recent Tales of Arise game:

I'm a big fan of that aesthetic, I just dont think they executed it very well. In general the character designs have been the weakest aspect of the game so far, while the environments, animation, and cinematography have all been pretty excellent. I like Seth as a character, so I'll get used to the look.

The 2nd Memory really reminded me of the stories told by Wit in The Stormlight Archives. It's pretty noticeable they got an author to write them.

Welp, it took less than an hour for this game to make me tear up, lol. When I heard about the memory system, where the game periodically pauses and presents a short story from the protagonists past, purely text based, I was a bit skeptical. Video games arent usually known for their stellar writing. But if the first one is …

This really feels like finding a lost Final Fantasy game from its peak era. Particularly with Nobuo Uematsu himself providing music. I haven't gotten to play much this week because it was the first week back for teachers in this county (and I was utterly exhausted every day when I got home, even though kids haven't started back yet). I've been keeping some notes though, for when I review this when I'm done.

So far, I'm really enjoying it. I think I have more of an appreciation for it now than I did over a decade ago, as far as mechanics and story. I loved the game back then, despite never finishing it, and even though the memory segments broke my heart over and over, I think I just appreciate it all even more now.

Now playing...Lost Odyssey!

I first played this on the 360 in like 2008 (I remember using some of the music for a project in my junior year), but I never finished it. My 360 struggled to run it and often the music would cut out during battles, if the whole game didn't crash.

When I decided to buy an XBoneX a few months ago, this was one of the main reasons for it. I've wanted to come back to it for years.

I don't remember much of the plot, but I remember crying. A lot.

Finished off the third disc of Lost Odyssey over the weekend so I'm on to the final disc. I'm gonna take some time to look for sidequests I think. I realize though that because of the disc system so places aren't on my map anymore. :( This is sad.
