Loving the heck out of this game. Time for a Wednesday afternoon session with horror, followed by some Path of Exile 2, which I fell in love with in just the first 20 minutes!
May your games be righteous today.

Just started up the game for the first time. I'm excited! There have been so many amazing modern horror game remakes lately, starting with Resident Evil 2, and these devs keep knocking them out of the park.
Dead Space Remake was a masterpiece imo, RE 2 was a masterpiece, RE4, etc.....

And now I have this!! So far the game runs excellent on my RTX 3090ti; max settings, ray tracing ON, DLSS Quality enabled, 3840x2160 res. Beautiful game with beautiful performance.
Time for an all day session :) Happy Sunday gaming everyone and may your games be righteous!

The atmosphere is horrifying for the whole game (the prison section is something else). The enemies are also really well done and the combat is pretty fun. Overall, I'm giving this game 5 stars because it was a faithful recreation with tons of new content and also small easter eggs that give nods to the original game.

Finished it. Not a very satisfying ending but maybe there are better ones. Overall I enjoyed my time with it. The moment to moment creepiness and locations were horrible and terrifying. Despite having fewer monsters than a resident evil game it managed to create overbearing tension and make me constantly wary. The fight with

My big complaint is the story seems so minimally tied to the gameplay. It feels like the events and the monsters and what James “accomplishes” during the game could pretty much be substituted with any story of tragedy or loss.
Still, I think I would play another more modern Silent Hill game if it came out.

This game is a masterclass in how a remake should be done. Eveything from the original has been improved while still maintaining the charm, story, dialogues and feeling of Silent Hill 2. I can't praise this game enough. It wasn't as scary as the original but I guess that's due to better controls and the lack of the fixed camera. …

Appart from that I just don't give it a 5 star rating because of one thing. This game has A LOT of going back and forth in order to progress. You're constantly having to pick keys to open dors, get another key, to open another door and they're always on opposite ends of the map. It get's really boring, specially with all the video game logic: "why can't you just hop the damn fence or go around it through the bushes????"

I am still slightly mixed on this game. I never played the original though I heard there is a heavy psychological element to the game, but the crazy circumstances of the abandoned town and the bizarre monsters are treated a bit too matter of factly.

The apartments had a great atmosphere and some good jump scares, but seemed more like a haunted house that the main character goes through just because, rather than accomplishing some real goal. I am not quite sold on the driving motivation for him and his relationship to his wife.
However, now that Maria has shown up (and a few other supporting characters) it is a bit more interesting.

Spooktober 2024 Game #10 Complete!
I wasn't as hyper-cynical about this remake as a lot of people, but my expectations weren't especially high either. That said: wow, that was fantastic. I do have a few gripes—big and small—but overall absolutely loved it. Looking forward to getting my thoughts down when I have a bit of time to write a more thorough review after it has sit for a bit.
Separately, I'm quite behind on my 15-game goal for the month. Only a couple longer ones left that make it seem unlikely but I'm going to push the next few days and see what I can do as I'm really looking forward to what's left!

Bloobler Team did a really stellar job with updating this classic gem. In fact, they did so good of a job I have to take frequent breaks in between thanks to it's heavy atmosphere and moody tone. This forced me to take a break sometimes and play something lighthearted. Not to mention, all the padding doesn't help either. But still, …
