What a waste! This game could have been so much better with improved writing and a more insightful social attitude. It’s faults are painfully sad. Even though I found some humour, fun puzzles and an interesting alternative world to discover, the main character is a narcissistic leaching psychopath void of empathy. Not a fun nor sophisticated character to play. It takes away from any attempt at humour, because of the deliberate disregard he has for others. By design it’s impossible to take anything away from this game. Which in turn makes playing it utterly pointless.
Many games offer sophisticated humour, invoke ethical thought, critical thinking, even ambiguous ethical dilemmas. Deponia, however, is game that promotes toxic masculinity, upheaves rape culture and is unforgivably socially backwards, totally dismantling any of it’s qualities. This game lacks insight, is cheap, unenlightening and a huge disappointment. It’s blatantly obvious they wanted to create an adventure akin to Monkey island, but they couldn’t be more off.
The female characters were particularly poorly written or made nonexistent (e.g. sleeping), degrading the storyline. Considering the game is from 2012, this lack of insight quickly became an annoyance. I’ve seen more impressive and socially progressive work from the …

The female characters were particularly poorly written or made nonexistent (e.g. sleeping), degrading the storyline. Considering the game is from 2012, this lack of insight quickly became an annoyance. I’ve seen more impressive and socially progressive work from the nineties. This game was such a let down. Despite the game having themes concerning subjects like dystopia, inequality, resource scarcity, callousness and lack of empathy, non of these issues were actually addressed. Instead, commentary was left to an uninsightfull narcissist, who superficially started to feel a little bad as the game progressed. There was no depth to this story. The main female character was treated as a commodity the entire time and was constantly manipulated. All female characters were constantly being sedated/drugged if they were inconvenient, e.g. had independent wants, needs or interests of their own.
It’s such a shame, because the world created could have had such potential if scripting had been better and if a higher level of social awareness would have been incorporated.
This game gave me mixed feelings... I like the story, i liked the funky, obnoxious character, i liked the mess around the set, but i disliked the WTF-puzzling moments, of stuff we needed to do that is super farfetch'ed... It started very well, with well structure puzzles, that made sense, and we could create a line of though around them... but at a given time of Chapter 2, mayhem took place and things stopped making sense, and became somewhat.... stupid!
But overall is a fun game, good couple hours, not very long, only some puzzles will keep you busy some time.
I first played Deponia in high school and it's funny how a game that was retro nostalgia bait then has now become genuinely nostalgic for me. The art is still gorgeous. The jokes are pretty juvenile but mostly still make me smile. The puzzles are mostly pretty logical, only a little bit of moon logic here and there. My biggest complaint is honestly just that there's not much of an ending, which is problematic because the sequel kind of blows. Deponia is probably nothing special if you don't have fond memories of it, but I had fun revisiting it.
This game features an especially annoying protagonist who embodies what I would describe as the worst personality traits I have found in men. The supporting characters are all often equally unlikable. It has a story that doesn't seem to make much sense. Certainly, a lot about it is never explained. Like,
Anyway, I don't recommend and I won't play the sequel. I finished it only because it was the D in my alphabet challenge.

The only nice thing I can say about it is that, at times, it felt like I was playing an old Doctor Who episode from before the reboot. That wasn't enough to get past the many negatives, though.
This was an enjoyable game, I loved the characters and the story. Great game for genre fans!
I might have to just give up on this game. The completely unlikable protagonist and frustrating moon logic puzzles are bad enough but I keep running into situations where I can't advance the game and I can't figure out what step I didn't do (or if it's just a bug). All this effort for very little story to enjoy makes this about as one star as a game can get for me. It's the D in my alphabet challenge, though, so I suppose I won't give up yet.
This game made me realize that I'm not into point and click games that much. Also a bug that isn't solved since 2012 made me realize that I can learn to code in hexadecimal, just kidding a guide helped me, but that bug and the main character are incredibly annoying. On the good side, the story is a little engaging.
played this for a hot second but the main character was getting on my nerves so much i had to look at some reviews to see if it would get better or worse. turns out he's not only annoying, he actively makes a black woman dance like a monkey wearing very little clothing and tries to sabotage his ex-girlfriend's therapy to lead her to suicide!

thank you reviewers for my life
A point and click game with an interesting story where the puzzles challenge the player's brain a little. However, I can't say that the protagonist is my favorite type of hero, but I hope he changes slightly in the second part of the game. But anyone who is curious should try it.
