Anniversary edition has finally been released, I've been awaiting it for quite some time. But at the moment there's no separate page or new releases inside this old page here on Grouvee.

I played Worlds 2-4 in the first hour and while the puzzle design is certainly interesting and intuitive in how it's structured and put together (one really easy example to show off this is Fickle Companion), I found myself only relatively entertained throughout that hour. Considering that already puts me somewhere around halfway through the game and I'm barely enjoying myself I'm really not sure whether to keep continuing.
The music, sounds, and aesthetic are so abstract in how they're put together that I'm not really feeling myself attached to the game at all either. It does match the story I guess, of which only seems to be a very obvious hint at subverting the man chasing the girl creating an awful obsession that destroys his concept of time as he keeps chasing her. It's just as scattershot, but I don't respect this kind of storytelling. I'm aware of the actual story, that being the Manhattan Project personally said by Blow himself, but when I look back through the story and mechanics I experienced in-game it just screams nothing but pretentious.
Idk, i don't plan to finish it for a long while now. It's certainly an alright puzzle game in its own way but it's not for me. The Witness will probably be much much better for me.

It's a short puzzle platformer and some of the later levels are quite the brain twisters and one secret is so ridiculous that I could not imagine anyone actually managing to discover it on their own. However, I think this game really takes all its elements and assembles them harmoniously in order to present the theme of regret and wanting to go back to redo or relive a moment. Some people say the story is pretentious but I like its ambition to say something on more than one level and how it subverts expectations. The gameplay with the time reversal mechanic and other time related constraints is unique and the solutions are mostly logical when you discover them (or look them up, which I admit to doing for a couple of them). As far as I know, no game has even attempted to imitate it or even just try to make devious puzzle platformer levels using similar time reversal mechanics. The player character is totally generic but the art style and music are quite lovely.
It's true that these sorts of puzzles once solved don't offer immediate replay value in the traditional sense (unless you forget the solution the next time you play it) but the experience is still one that I remember distinctly and can continue to appreciate. Evaluating games isn't always about quantifiable things like replay value. Artistic merits can also factor into a game's perceived worth. Even games with predictable solutions can be replayed and enjoyed and sometimes you might notice a detail that you missed the first time like when you read a book or watch a movie again.

I finished up the 4th area of Braid before work this morning and I've gotten every puzzle piece to this point. This game has a nice level of challenge but it's really all found in the puzzle piece hunting, not the actual level completion. If you love Mario you should try this game out. It's like a modern Mario; platform, hop on top of bad guys to kill theme, and story involves saving a princess. However, in this game you can control time. Think of it like this, If Mario and Prince of Persia made a game together it would be this game.

Beautiful story, fun puzzles, and great gameplay as metaphor, but could have explained itself a little bit more.
