I was saying to a friend that one of the things that gives BG3 something of a learning curve for me is the level of possibility involved. I'm so used to having limited combinations of things programmed into a game, and if it's possible there's usually a new cursor or something involved. The idea that I can just interact with things and use them to impact other things in the game environment, and the amount of possibilities is so enormous is a bit staggering. It's definitely forcing me to take a more creative approach to playing than I'm used to.

I’ve never played a game, let alone played it three times, and then moved on to a game by another studio whose work I typically adore, and felt like I still want to be playing the previous game instead. Even after playing some of my favourite games of all time, I usually walk away happy with a single completion and content to experience something completely new. But a good percentage of my being just wants to be playing BG3. And I think it’s hurting the degree of enjoyment I’m getting from other things. But I don’t think playing it yet again is the answer, because I think I’ll just want to play it again right after that.

So, I used the random character generator and it rolled me a Rogue, so I thought, hey ho never been a rogue before, no idea how it plays (apart from stealthy), what have I got to loose? (I'd normally veer towards something like a ranger / hunter, so rogue style play is completely new to me).

So I'm now about 39 hours in, bimbling around in Act 1 and still not too sure how to play my rogue, but who cares! I don't think I've "gone down the rabbit" hole this baldy for a long long time! The question remains, can I still cling on to being a responsible adult / parent and maintain a full time responsible job in the process?

I'm getting a bit obsessed with checking out every single box, chest, cabinet, tree, bush, rock, undiscovered corner, there's just so much to explore! It's going to take me years just for one play through!

Oh my god, Karlach's origin run is amazing. If you think she was charming and wonderful as a companion, wait until you get all her additional dialogue as the protagonist!

I did something different during Act 3 this time around. I left both Orin and Gortash for last. During the previous two runs I immediately went after Orin once she kidnapped one of my party members. This time she grabbed Gale, and if I’m being honest, I don’t really care. I would have cared during my second run when he was one of my main damage dealers. This time, I’m a sorcerer so I don’t have much need for Gale. And I wouldn’t really miss him if Orin did kill him.

The beauty of this plan is that I can kill whomever I’m feeling the urge to kill first. The slayer form inside me is itching to disembowel Orin but part of me really wants to give my old buddy a visit first. After all, he didn’t seem too distraught when Orin disposed me, so maybe I let him know that was a mistake before getting revenge on sister dearest.

The House of Hope fight was very entertaining on Tactician. Somehow I think I fared even better than I did the first two times on Balanced.

I hate to admit it but I really like Minthara. Don’t get me wrong, she’s pretty evil but she doesn’t beat around the bush. She’s very entertainingly awful. It also doesn’t hurt that she hits like a freight train.

The recast spell bug is driving me nut because I can’t recast spells with a controller. It was fine before one of the last two patches and now I can’t recast anything unless I’m using a keyboard and mouse. Annoying!
