When I'm done this Dark Urge play-through I need to force myself to take a break and only return for multiplayer. At least for the short-term, or else this game is going to consume my life, lol.

Today for the first time since this came out i felt like i had the time and space to take a decent crack at and, oh boy am i overwhelmed. I love Dnd, I love Larian Studios, but somehow this one is a slog for me. I think it's the fomo created by endless decisions, perhaps decision fatigue i'm so glad this game exists as it does, and i remain hopeful that at some point into this journey, it's going to click for me. Because i'm so excited for it, and enjoying all the story beats. My only real B̵u̵g̵ *Owl-bear here is the inventory management is missing.... something. As my loot goblin tendencies are brought out by this game in full force, i fill one character inventory over and over... I guess that's on me ;)

Learning the mechanics of a new class/sub-class at level 9 while playing on Tactician is not as easy as I thought it would be. Need to experiment a bit with Minthara to get a hang of my Vengeance Pally rotation.

The Siege of Moonrise Towers plays out a lot differently if you’ve chose the evil path, wiped out the entire Last Light Inn and killed Aylin. The Siege of Moonrise Towers plays out a lot differently if you’ve chose the evil path, wiped out the entire Last Light Inn and killed Aylin. I think it’s the first time that an evil play-through feels like hard rather than easy mode. The siege wasn’t difficult per se, it just took a lot more careful planning, sneak attacks and strategic retreats to regroup and use your short rests, as opposed to the relatively simple and straightforward frontal assault aided by Harper’s and Flaming Fists.

I helped Shadowheart achieve her dream of becoming a Dark Justiciar by encouraging her to kill Aylin, thereby also dooming the land to remain under the Shadow Curse. I murdered Isobel once again after she was resurrected by her father. And despite all this, you’re still excited to join my party. Oh Jaheira, I thought you were better than that.

How am I still finding new things to do in this game? And I'm not talking about unique events tied to The Dark Urge storyline, I'm talking about random things that I missed in a random room that I thought I thoroughly scoured during my first two play-throughs that then lead down a whole new set of side-quests or adventures.

I also love that despite being a tad miffed with me for suddenly turning on Isobel, all of them still seem to hold me in exceptional esteem, lol.

Even the “evil” aligned characters are ultimate more compelling that the two hypocrites that left my party, lol.

Tactician is a perfect difficulty. It really requires that you think your strategies through thoroughly. The first time I played taught me that careful planning and positioning can really help make things easier when in combat. My second play through revealed how smooth and easy Balanced can feel when you know the ins and outs of every fight. But Tactician forces you to plan even further, and to ensure that you’re not only positioning yourself carefully, but that you’re getting the drop in your enemy to ensure you have initiative and the element of surprise. It makes for some very satisfying gameplay. Never hard, but more involved and thoughtful. I love it.
