Today I’m really glad I bought this for PS5. I just spent the last hour and a half trying to get the game to Launch on GeForce Now, to no avail. I can launch other games but GeForce Now gets stuck at around 95-99% on the loading screen. Nothing I do works. And when I tried to switch over to my Steam Deck the cloud sync is taking forever. So I let that sit and update and now playing on PS5.

I really like GeForce Now, and the majority of the time it just works. But when it doesn’t you’re kind of in the dark in regards to why, because there’s no accessible back end to muck around with in order to determine a fix.

You know what mod I want created for Baldur’s Gate 3? An xcom style combat camera. Like where instead of being the overhead it does cinematic shots of the characters making their actions in combat.

So I solved the problem of the Nightsong and Larroakan quest line that dead-ends due to Nightsong vanishing in my play-through. The solution was easy, I simply killed Larroakan. I was tired of the stub of a task in my quest journal and since Larroakan is kind of a dick anyway, I decided one way I could deal with it was by killing him. It turns out that it’s actually a pretty decent solution, with what I consider relatively happy outcomes. And since I probably would have had to kill him anyway if Nightsong was around, it worked out for the best.

Because my mission was to kill Cazador, I didn’t really think to give him a chance to speak. I snuck up behind him with Karlach and laid into him. He was dead with our first turn, and then we cleaned up his mobs. The result, however, is that Astarion immediately freed the spawn and spoke nothing of the ritual. He simply said he wanted to leave. Back at our room at the inn he spoke of the temptation presented by the ritual, and I even had a dialogue option to remark that he was almost a different person during the ritual, but none of those things actually transpired. I think I wasn’t supposed to sneak up on Cazador, I was meant to give him a chance to speak so that the requisite scenes after his death would have played out. It’s suites me, I wouldn’t have let Astarion go through with the ritual during this play through so I prefer this outcome. But it is humorous.

I just found out that a huge chunk of storyline is unavailable to me, as well as some top tier gear, because of a bug at the end of Act 2. I can go back but I lose hours upon hours of progress. Guess I’m saving it for the next run 😭

GeForce now is behaving all sorts of erratic right now, especially around synced file mismatches. Each time I try to launch the game this afternoon the GeForce Now Steam instance indicates that cloud saves are out of sync and then attempts to download the save files stored in the cloud. This is despite the fact that GeForce Now was the last place I played the game this morning, so the source save game record should already be available in my GeForce Now instance. Each time I launch the game it needs to download again, even if I haven’t registered any new saves. I then receive notices about mismatched or corrupted files. Apparently that happened a few weeks ago with BG3 on GeForce Now, and people lost progress due to corrupted save files.

Might need to rethink my plan to subscribe to GeForce Now for the short term.

Finished, finally! The ending I got was kinda abrupt, and took a major character in a really unsatisfying and arbitrary-feeling direction. Having a huge assortment of allies that you could call in as summons in the final battle was really cool flavor though, even if it wasn't particularly impactful mechanically.

Climactic boss fights against big dragons are really tough to pull off in most games, I think, and doubly so in turn-based games. But even coming in with thoroughly managed expectations, BG3's dragon battle is maybe the most underwhelming I've ever seen. A whole dungeon's worth of buildup and lore, leading to a no-frills encounter that's over in like 2 …

Hotfix #6 today, and I've learned that GeForce Now takes a really, really, really long time to patch games on their end. Like hours, and hours. I guess that's because they are basically patching a fairly large number of virtual installs of the game on their servers. That makes sense, right?

The first time I played the game I failed to rescue a tiny tiefling child from harpies. Well, I found him, but I kept getting wrecked by the harpies. I left because I decided I’d come back when I was a bit stronger. Well I forgot to come back, and I don’t think I ever saw the kid again. Well this time, armed with a better grasp on the combat than I did at level 1-2 the first time around, I was able to save him. Turns out saving him reveals the easy way into Mol’s hideout, which I weaselled my way into twice. I love how many paths the game contains to get tot the same locations.
