Yay, finally figured out how to use my bard's Combat Inspiration! It only adds extra damage consistently if you dive into the party menu after you cast it, and then tell the game to prompt you about it in there. Pretty much everything about how Reactions work in this game is poorly explained.

Switched up my controller config a bit, being able to move the camera and highlight loot at the same time makes exploration feel way smoother!
Current dungeon is a big Dishonored/Desperados-style puzzle box, with three targets to dispatch and a bunch of viable approaches for each. Having a blast tricking goblins and jumping around the rafters.

I'm heavily considering dropping the game until there are more patches and mods. I don't think I dislike the game, but there's nothing that I love enough to really compel me to keep playing right now given the things that I've found annoying.

In particular, the camera feels stifling, especially in areas with multiple elevations. It can be very difficult to actually look around and figure out where I can go, and even, at times, where enemies actually are. Which sucks, because those areas are gorgeous and the use of elevation can really uh... 'elevate' the combat.
There's also the whole weird deal where only one character can interact with a scene. Strange artifact? Well, the fighter saw it first, so they'll have to consult their knowledge of the arcane, sorry mage in the back. I find this absolutely maddening, and I've seen enough others complain about it that I'm sure there'll be a mod to just take the highest modifier in the party or something.
I'm really hoping the companion dialogues are bugged. One friendly conversation with literally anyone and they expect to be in your pants. I thought my bud just wanted to show me some actual magic :( Worse, I'm seeing very little in the way of companion commentary, interjection, and banter. They'll say a few lines and then might as well be generic NPCs for hours. There are times where it takes them hours to finally decide to comment on things, as well. It's all very odd.
Some of the balance decisions are absolutely nutty, too. Even on tactician mode, I feel like I'm using cheese just by doing the obvious thing. Tavern Brawler absolutely destroys the math of the game all on its own. Hunger of Hadar seems to just turn enemies AI off sometimes lol. I don't think I can play a Larian game without a balance mod.
Finally, I've been reading that the number of bugs increase in Act 2 and become an substantial issue for many people in Act 3. Might as well let other people get that ironed out if I'm not in love with the game haha. Of course, all that said, I really want to love the game, so there's a chance I keep doing the whole "I'll like it more soon".
Edit: Mainly adding this for when I come back to the game in a year or two, but a quick loot mod of some sort would go a long way to relieving tedium. More containers than a Bethesda game, and some fairly innocuous looking ones have unique loot.

Does anyone know why there's so many humanoid enemies that you can't use animate dead on?
Also everyone runs away from me when I've got summons so i have to chase them around just to talk to them.
All in all it ruins playing as a necromancer and at this point I'm considering respecing into evocation.

Having to sit through 2 loading screens and mash your way past 2 conversations every single time you want to switch your rogue into your party so they can pick a lock is the most needlessly hostile bit of UI I've seen in a minute. Gating the player's options behind their tolerance for boredom feels like a mistake.
And then …

And then you've got to do it all again if you feel like switching back to your original party! Asinine.

Baldur’s Gate 3 reactivates PS5 cross-saves
Sweet! I know there's no need for it until September, but I'm glad they resolved the bug in the cross save system that was causing problems with autosave.

Maybe it was because I was in desktop mode, I'll try console mode latter because that seemed to work ok when connected to my TV. All the same, I'd like to play this on a machine that could output the game at 1080 or 1440 and 60fps. I'm tempted to buy another copy for PS5 to get sexier graphics on my home TV, but I'd still like the option to play with KB/M and slightly higher resolution and details.

Haven't got any strong opinions just yet, but the breakout success of this game has me thinking about how hard Bioware dropped the ball by letting Dragon Age wither away for almost 10 years. Feels like there's an audience for this brand of big-budget, party-focused WRPG that's gone underserved for ages now.

I have a little time off and managed to make room on my SSD, so I thought I'd check out BG3 for myself! Rolled a tiefling bard, minmaxed to the nines and comically ill-suited for combat. Curious to see how I'll fare with a character focused mostly on speech skills, utility spells, perception, and insight.
