I wish the ratings invovled half stars as well, this was a 2.5 star game for me, for its genre. The best part about the game is the very style of it as obvious as its. I dont play much of video games anymore and i liked that we were able to play/watch this game with my friends while having a breakfast. And anyone can join and enjoy it so yeah thats cool. I liked it most practically lets say. The second best part is Travis and his actor, his mannerism.

On other notes, it starts cliche but alright and promising. It falls short in the later parts though. I especially hated the way aftermaths handled. Like, no reaction of our group to those who couldnt make it out? Not even Laura when Max dies? Lots of disappointments when it mattered the most; Silas, The witch, family conflict of hackett's, charcater moralities...

In the end, the game feels worse the more i think about it but while playing it with a loose focus and a group of friends while having a chat as well, it was alright. Did it's job. Mission accomplished.

When it Actually Matters

One of the rare interactive films that offers choices with real consequences that can result in more than just the standard 2 endings. All served with stunning visuals, solid writing and captivating presentation where others of its genre, drags out

This one is chock full of horror tropes but some occasionally baffling writing and a really lazy online multiplayer hold this back from reaching what came before.

It looks nice but everything just feels cheaper, more rushed and I cannot really put my finger on why. After those Dark Anthology games the online multiplayer sucking is REALLY unfortunate.

It was still fun to go through this with friends but only because we were goofing and joking the whole time. The host having so much power and full control instead of even giving movement out on a player basis are all steps backwards.

The Quarry is the next game from Supermassive Games who have previously made The Dark Pictures Anthology games, Until Dawn, among others. At this point they have really fine tuned their approach to these games, making The Quarry a really fun experience. The game takes place at Hackett's Quarry Summer Camp on the last day after all the campers leave. You play as the teen camp counselors as they are getting ready to leave for the summer before things go awry. Sections of the game are split up by you playing as the different characters throughout the night as they get split up, reunited, etc. The gameplay consists of sometimes walking around looking for clues, while other times watching a movie and deciding what the characters say or do, or quick time events which can all change the outcome of the story. The story takes your typical teen slasher style movie, but infuses some interesting ideas into it. The graphics here are incredible, as they got real life actors to do motion capture portraying themselves in the game. Every now and then this has some weird effects where the eyes aren't looking directly at the person they are talking to, or the mouths looking a bit odd when they are talking (the teeth are kind of frightening looking as well!). The performances though are great, and really help you feel like this is a playable movie. What I really like about this one especially is the variation in what can happen based on choices, and the pass/fail of quick time events. I managed to keep everyone alive during my first play through but looking up some small sections of what could have happened, makes it really different with some characters not appearing in scenes or not going to locations they did in my game. There are some great features here as well on top of the base game that have been added. The typical chapter select after completion is nice where you can choose where you want to try and divert the story. The only problem with this (and it's a bit understandable due to the nature of the game) is that once you start a play through from chapter select, you have to finish that game through to the very end before you can go back and select a different chapter. There is a 'movie mode' where it will just play through all cut scenes of the game without requiring your input so you can really enjoy it more like a movie. Even with this mode, you can select where everyone lives, everyone dies, or a director mode which you can choose how the characters will act in scenarios, then watch it play out. They also have a couple multiplayer modes, one where it says you pass the controller to others (though I wasn't able to test this out), as well as a mode that somehow takes input from multiple people in the room (I'm guessing via mobile website or app similar to the Jackbox Games?) and the majority votes decides what happens. This turns what I enjoyed as a fun single player option into what could be a great party experience with groups of friends. I have only done one playthrough so far, but will probably go back and try to see some other outcomes later on!

After playing the Dark Pictures Anthology games I found myself disappointed by the low quality and shotty uninteresting storylines in comparison to Until Dawn, so I had very low expectations for The Quarry and was surprised with the improvements in quality but it does come with some downfalls.

The gameplay seems more story and dialog driven with far fewer QTEs and exploring than Until Dawn offered. Plus, character movements are a lot slower and it becomes a chore to explore locations, especially on more than one playthrough. With that said, The Quarry feels small in comparison to the world of Until Dawn and the explorable areas are kind of plain with little to explore. When comparing The Quarry to Until Dawn there is similar story plots and locations that are obvious if you've played both.

The graphics are amazing and it's definitely one of the best visually impressive games I've played so far. But like I said before the gameplay is slow and feels more like an interactive horror movie, more so than Until Dawn. Not a bad thing, that was expected.

It was interesting to see David Arquette make an appearance but his character was poorly acted and cheesy, taking away some of the horror aspects.

All in all, it's not a bad game. A worthy Until Dawn sequel with a decent story and killer graphics. If you didn't enjoy the Dark Pictures Anthology games but loved Until Dawn, there is surely something in The Quarry you'll like.

The setting of this game is perfect for some classic camp horror vibes. It's self aware of how campy it can be, but still manages to pack in some big scares.

I have read previous Supermassive games sometimes fail to deliver worthwhile characters. I wouldn't say The Quarry delivers ground breaking characters, BUT I thought most of them were different enough to have their moments, and we grew pretty attached to some by the end. A LOT of this is thanks to the amazing voice and motion capture work done here. The actors performances manage to really come through amazingly well.

There are a few moments that the faces seem just a tad off, leading to some uncanny valley, but overall this game looks amazing.

The flow of the game is great, starting quick, then hitting some slower points so you get to know the cast, then speeding right back up.

If you are a horror movie fan I think a lot of the plot moves here aren't surprising, but that is some of the fun. Its a lot of fun playing through a horror movie! Trying to get your favorites to survive.

The play length is just about right, and there are so many choices that clearly create drastically different play experiences, that once we beat it we wanted to play again right away.

If you like the idea of an interactive horror movie, this is the game for you. Game play tends to be simple and straight forward, with only a few moments actually being "hard" but this means you can really get into the story and the characters.

Amazing and with a lot of replay value

Awesome game, the plot is very good, and the graphics are the best I saw so far in any PS5 game. This game is one of the few with a lot of replay value as there are around 80 outcomes depending on your choices in the game.

I had such high hopes for this game. I was so excited I even preordered it and downloaded it the night it came out. Like all Dark Pictures Anthology games, this game was so good until it came to the ending. The ending was such rushed! It's like that with all of Supermassive's games, the only game that really did well with the ending was Until Dawn. It seems they always focus on one major ending and not the others they give you, despite the whole draw of these horror games is the actions you make and the conclusions they can lead to.

This game honestly felt like it was the predecessor to Until Dawn, that's really how bad it was. If you were to ask me which one I though came out first without knowing, I'd say Until Dawn. Until Dawn was so well paced, had such good character development (which this game felt like it truly lacked), and had very good timing with characters. Unlike Until Dawn where it felt you had equal amounts of time with each characters, The Quarry felt like it only focused on one group and the rest maybe had 10 minutes of screen time. It also felt like in this game your decisions meant absolutely nothing until endgame, which is fine but then this game shouldn't be advertised as a choice game where every choice matters.

I really had such high hopes for this game. The graphics were amazing, but looked pretty gravely and buggy at some points. For instance in the beginning when it's light out, that is really where the graphics suffered in my opinion (and I was playing on a Playstation 5 ASUS HDR monitor). What really sucked was that multiplayer was delayed, and that was one of the reasons I truly was excited for the game. But sadly, I disliked the game so much I have already deleted it and wouldn't even go back to play it multiplayer with my friends. So honestly, if you're not a graphics freak, alright with a game that has such a blunt ending, and okay with not having much character development, then this game is for you.
