A kind user recommended that I play the Trails series, so I started this today. It's probably too early but man, this is the best turn-based combat that I've played.

  1. It's strategic but also fast-paced.
  2. You feel in control and not at the mercy of some behind-the-scenes dice rolls.
  3. It's very cinematic.

I wish all turn-based JRPGs were like this. …

I wish all turn-based JRPGs were like this. Again, probably too early, but this game is, in my opinion, the perfect mix of old-school aesthetics/vibes and modern gameplay.

This one started really slow, but it's beginning to grow on me. Weirdly, turning off the voiced dialogue makes the pacing better? I can't entirely explain why this is. It's certainly far less irritating when you can click through text boxes without constant,
"Boku no-"
"Ore da-"
"So desu-"

And when the game actually lets you play, it's actually quite good, with a very strong battle system that isn't needlessly complex - who decided modern JRPG gameplay needed to be convoluted, anyway? - and some really great visuals that make you kinda wanna search around. I was scared the game was gonna take place primarily in the one city, and that doesn't seem to be the case - though a map and fast travel system for said city is introduced about 6 hours later than it should be.

I keep hearing that this is one of the greatest JRPGs ever made, but I'm still waiting to see it. Like, I love turn-based JRPGs, but holy shit is the Prologue ever slow. I'm around 6-8 hours deep and the plot hasn't really gone anywhere interesting yet. I'm guessing this is one of those "it gets good 20 hours in" …

I think I've said it before, but someone really needs to sit Japanese writers down and tell them we do not require three consecutive, nearly identical scenes establishing the same God damn information.

I'm not even joking, I just sat through a section where the main party sits with a reporter and discusses the mafia being involved in a conflict, then the same conversation with their superior, then the exact same conversation with a lawyer. Like the shut fuck up and MOVE ON. XD

I like the new landscape and the city of Crossbell is just gorgeous but I will miss the little kingdom of Liberl enter image description here

Finished up the game today, and want to do a review for it so I save my thoughts on it for that overall though 8/10

Finishing up Chapter 3 today, I am definitely getting into this more and more with the time I invest in this game. Traqils always has a slow start but more time investing in these games it pays off

Last night I experienced probably one of my favorite scenes in this franchise so far, and I was in ntears. Knowing a little bit about these main characters is an experience

Finished up Chapter 2 tonight, the story has me intrigued now, and I am hooked, just been slowly progressing due to IRL duties.

I just want to say that I'm happy not to be anymore chained by the "fandom barrier" full of people who just hate Rean in favor of Lloyd or else I wouldn't have been able to play and enjoy so much Trails From Zero.

Zero has the best pacing of the Trails games I have played. Some terms are new even for someone who has played all the games localized until now! It's like a fresh start but with some things you already know thanks to CS3/CS4.
I hope more people will get to love Elie like I do! She's an action mom for the little Kea❤️
The SSS is a wholesome family for sure.

So im in chapter 1 right now, and this game is giving me Sky FC vibes (in a good way). This series does well on its world-building I am used to this series needing to be slow at times to establish stuff but since I know the main cast (from later games in the series) I am invested in them that I am ready to get in on the real stuff. I think that this is just me thing because if you are getting into these games now people will probably start from Sky, or go into Cold Steel and then go back. Luckily this game can be an entry point too now.
