Honestly, one of the most surprising games that we have played all year. Such a refreshing take on the RPG formula.
This game desperately wants to be a sports anime, and it does succeed at that. The story is all about that power of friendship and has a bunch of funny and epic moments like you'd see in one, all of the characters are super unique with their own abilities (even though the roster is pretty small). The actual dodgeball minigame is pretty fun but not much is done to switch up the formula from fight to fight, and there are a lot of them, some being repeated quite a lot when they could have just been a one time thing so it does end up a bit repetitive. Outside the matches it's not super interesting either, the quests more or less boil down to back and forths between places and a few generic dodgeball games. The game's good points are mainly in the funny writing and its presentation. Overall I'd say it's decent, I would recommend it to people who really enjoyed Pyre, which did what this game is trying to do a lot better imo, and know they would enjoy a more anime version of that.
We need more dodgeball games and sports RPGs. This game is both of those. It is fun and I'd like to see a sequel. I like the aesthetics and I appreciate all of the playable characters having different skills and attributes. As far as the actual dodge ball mechanics, I think I prefer the gameplay in Super Dodge Ball Advance more.
