Yesterday I managed to beat Elden Ring with rune level 1. Managed to do it without spirit ashes/summons as well for good measure.

Taking down the final boss gave an incredible rush of endorphine, and I don't know if I've ever felt more satisfied of an game-related feat before. Hot damn was it a learning experience and a stressful battle althogeher.
The run took around 22 hours of time in total. In some ways, RL1 run was easier than I expected. For example, there was still lot of options of what weapons to use and by using buffs you could deal immense damage even at level 1. In some ways, it was just as hard as you'd imagine. During my run, I used Antspur Rapier (poison affinity), Great Epée (mostly cold affinity) and bows with barrage ash of war. For the final boss I switched into Great Stars with flame art affinity. And these I topped with tons of buffs, of course.
Now that this off my list, I have Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom already waiting for me. Time to jump into another timesink, I guess.

Not the best SoulsLIke. Bosses are overdesigned and doing too much all at once too often. Too many bosses/enemies where you're fighting the camera along with all the particles on screen.

Lots of build viability and so many options to take your character wherever you want. As always with Souls games, the problem is that many thought out builds require weapons late in the game and it's hard to compare late weapons with ones you've already invested upgrades into without full committing to them. From should really try and figure this one out. There is NG+ though and the multiplayer community is of plentiful.
The other core problem is Elden Ring goes against what makes Souls games special. Elden Ring is too spread out with lots of dead space, and the reward for exploration can frequently be copy-pasted enemies, dungeons, caverns. Previous Souls games are special because you fight for every inch of progress and it always feels like the world and your knowledge of the level design is evolving. Here, it starts to feel tasky and drawn out.
It's a 5 star but definitely on the low end because it just gets in the way of itself too often.

I've now obtained 32 of the 42 trophies available in this game.
I only have one legacy dungeon left (Haligtree Canopy).
I'm at the point with the game where I'm ready to finish it, but also sad to finish it. It's become such a part of my daily routine.

I think what I love most is I'm still uncovering secrets. Today, while finishing Crumbling Farum Azula, I stumbled upon a secret dragon. I mean, what the heck???
I'm also learning how to fight without being so aggressive. Utilizing spells and stealth. Rotten breath and poison mist have become my friends.

Excited for the new expansion DLC for Elden Ring. It looks like it may be Miquella riding the horse? Either way, good reason for me to come back for NG+ 2

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC announced.
Crazy to think this game will get even bigger and most likely better. I'm hyped. Even the announcement artwork looks awesome.

Feel like I'm finally on the "back nine" with this game. Completed the Leyndell Capital and the underground lair beneath it. Now heading to the Land of the Giants. Still love this game and while I'm ready to finish it up, I'm also going to be sad when it's over.
