A Solid Game...But More of the Same

I was eagerly awaiting the release of this game because I enjoyed the first one so much. The mechanics, the story, the beautiful graphics. And, I mean come on, being a badass Jedi wielding a lightsaber and using all kinds of Force tactics? Pretty freakin' awesome.

I was eagerly awaiting the release of this game because I enjoyed the first one so much. The mechanics, the story, the beautiful graphics. And, I mean come on, being a badass Jedi wielding a lightsaber and using all kinds of Force tactics? Pretty freakin' awesome.

This game had all of that, but I feel it didn't deliver. Maybe it was because the first one was something we didn't have and this one, well, we knew what to expect so there wasn't any "wow" factor. I dunno.

It WAS great, however, to start the game with pretty much all the abilities you ended the last game with. I also enjoyed the new stances (and using a blaster as well). But starting in the fourth or fifth chapter, it really started to feel like a grind - especially at the end. Just wave after wave of the same ol' same ol'. I also appreciated the ending (no spoilers), which was a nice touch. The dialogue, character development and story arch were all solid as well.

I guess the thing that bothered my most was some of the gameplay got REALLY frustrating - especially traversing large areas in the air. It seemed a lot more clunky than the first game and some of the challenges were just ridiculous. Look, I do enjoy having to figure things out, but sometimes where to go next just wasn't intuitive. I don't expect a big green arrow saying "this way," but some areas I was just lost on where to go (and ended up accidentally backtracking more than once). The other gripe I had was that later in the game there weren't enough save points, so one misstep and I'd have to go through 15 min of fighting the same foes again and again.

All in all, it IS a good game and I'm glad I played it. Bun unlike the first one, I have no desire to finish the side missions or get all the collectables. I know it's near impossible to recreate the awesomeness of a first game, and I guess that's what I felt. It just left me wanting more and I was glad when it was over.

Well, all in all, I admit that it is pretty good, but it's not great

But I must admit, that it's pretty disappointing if you evaluate it as AAA quality game.

I'm pretty sad with the current state of things in the game industry, where game release is always forced to make a quick buck and move along. I believe, that this game could be much better, at least technically.

Pros: sound design and music. It really gives you at least glimpses of this Star Wars movie feel.

Cons: The absence of a challenge is the main one for me except for the mentioned technical issues. Some main bosses were pretty nice, but I'd say I expected more challenge from some optional areas, like Bounty Hunters (similarly to God of War valkyries etc).

It's confirmed. Internet for this game is mandatory, so the PS5 disc is useless.

I've been seeing a lot of reports of bugs and poor performance, but it seems to be relegated to PC. I've been playing on PS5 in graphics mode for a couple days now with next to no issue. Definitely a frame drop or a small visual bug here or there but nothing major, and I think it's bringing up an interesting question: in a perfect world we wouldn't/shouldn't have to choose, but would you rather have a fun game with some issues, or a technically flawless game that's kind of... fine. I've been finding myself less and less gripped by AAA lately because so much of it just seems like the core gameplay never got ironed out. For me, technical perfection is never gonna make up for 3.6% cooldown increases and cumbersome traversal and slow pacing. Jedi Survivor has some issues in presentation but the combat is fun, the soundtrack is BANGING, the story is really compelling so far- but I feel like I see very few people talking about that (acknowledging that it's still early). Just curious now where other people land on this?

In my review of Fallen Order my big takeaway was "The best thing about it is that everything it suffers from can (and hopefully will) be easily fixed in the upcoming sequel", And so far that's holding 100% true. In my review of Fallen Order my big takeaway was "The best thing about it is that everything it suffers from can (and hopefully will) be easily fixed in the upcoming sequel", And so far that's holding 100% true. If FO was a proof of concept, this feels like a GAME- and a really good one at that. Only like 2 hours in so far (shout-out to my local friendly game store for the early access) but it's easily the best AAA game I've played this year. I think this might be the first PS5 game I've played since Ratchet & Clank that wasn't made to run on previous generations and BOY does it show. Excited to keep going!

Looks like this game's physical edition is a trash and doesn't work without a major download.

I'll wait for confirmation and I'll try to remember to inform you here.

I don't often react to game trailers, so this was really nice.

Question for anyone with an opinion on this, would you prefer I:

  1. Link to the original livestream where I react to a bunch of these trailers, line flubs and subject tangents and all; or...
  2. Cut the video game trailer reaction into its own video and link that here instead?

Both? Neither? Bueller?

Link to the livestream, for now... Here.
