Surged a love for action beat'em ups I didn't even know I had. You go girlies.

A very competent brawler...that is just not for me.

I won this game on steamgifts and wanted to play through it.

I got through that first level and this game is exactly why I don't normally play brawlers.

I'm sure it's great. there seemed to be a great variety of moves and combos, but I just didn't enjoy it.

I hope someone out there does though, someone worked hard …

Nothing special really..

While being visually appealing, the gameplay might feel a bit clunky and unresponsive. The music may feel off in some instances but shine with glamour in others. It's a very hard to rate game since most of its potential was wasted in the open world which does not make the game any better than any other classic beat 'em up …

It's a very hard to rate game since most of its potential was wasted in the open world which does not make the game any better than any other classic beat 'em up affair. It's almost in the green zone, but not quite.

In Which Dabbing is the Ultimate Power Move

This modern pixel-art beat-em-up is loads of fun. I played through it twice, each time with a different friend, and we all had a great time from start to finish. This modern pixel-art beat-em-up is loads of fun. I played through it twice, each time with a different friend, and we all had a great time from start to finish. Any beat-em-up that can keep things interesting that long is a definite win in my book, given how repetitive the genre is by its very nature. Some of the things that stood out to me:

  • Excellent spritework for the graphics, with well-animated characters who are all delightfully expressive
  • Great soundtrack, including some catchy vocal tunes
  • Funny characters, and a completely ridiculous storyline (some people find it cringy, but I always felt the game was presenting itself as entirely self-aware of its cheesiness, so I found most of the jokes hilarious -- all of which were delivered with cartoon-like over-the-top voice acting)
  • One of the girls can dab for an attack
  • Tons of moves to unlock, and learning how to use them all effectively is a lot of fun and is central to the game staying "fresh" over the course of its surprisingly lengthy campaign
  • Clever bosses, some of which borrow game mechanics from other game genres and manage to work them into the beat-em-up framework seamlessly
  • One of the girls can dab for an attack (deserves mentioning twice)

I do have a couple nitpicks. The biggest one probably being that it took me and my friend a long time to realize that we really needed to be eating each food item we could from all the shops--because the main purpose of them is not for health, but rather for getting the stats boost associated with each one. So make sure you're eating one of each food, regardless of whether or not you need the health boost right away. (You can carry some food with you too, if you want to save it for later.) My other nitpicks are that blocking seemed kind of useless, and I felt the wait for downed enemies to get back on their feet was a tad too long. (You can stomp on them, but that does little damage.)

Overall this game is a winner though in my book, and one of my top favorites as far as the beat-em-up genre goes. Fans of the genre shouldn't pass this one up, especially if you've got a friend to play through it with!

Too much grind...

Great art and soundtrack!

But you can't progress without grinding (for the bosses), and overall the game design doesn't feel right too me. Too many flaws for me, I quit the game.

Final Review: Great game, but some flaws kept it from being 5/5

OK I beat the main story, and I had a blast playing the game. I may return to the River City/Kunio Kun series in the future. (pretty messy review, sorry about this)

Pros:

1.Great soundtrack,

2.great art,

3.lovable characters,

4.the moves are fun to use,

5.great cutscenes,

6.well designed maps,

7.fun bosses (with the exception of Abobo and Yamada),

OK I beat the main story, and I had a blast playing the game. I may return to the River City/Kunio Kun series in the future. (pretty messy review, sorry about this)

Pros:

1.Great soundtrack,

2.great art,

3.lovable characters,

4.the moves are fun to use,

5.great cutscenes,

6.well designed maps,

7.fun bosses (with the exception of Abobo and Yamada),

8.fun enemies.

Cons:

1.healing items don't drop often enough,

2.Abobo is insanely frustrating to play against,

3.blocking feels clunky,

4.story ending felt slightly disappointing.

5.Boss difficulty is inconsistent.

Mixed:

1.wearable items are somewhat underwhelming, although to be fair, OP items would make the game too easy.

2.the story is somewhat corny, although it works

3.Voice acting does get the job done, although it may be irritating to some.

4.the enemies could drop more cash (refer to the last 5 words of reason 1)

Overall, I did enjoy this game, although there were noticeable flaws that set the game back.

edit: (apparently there is a secret alternative ending that is suppose to be better than the original, that is to be patched in)
