It has some interesting gimmicks, padded with mediocre gameplay

First of all, this is an interesting "game inside of a game" experience. Pixel Ripped puts you into a body of a young boy, playing his console in front of a TV, while his parents (and other things) try to distract him from playing. That was interesting, because at that age, I also felt like my parents came up with …

First of all, this is an interesting "game inside of a game" experience. Pixel Ripped puts you into a body of a young boy, playing his console in front of a TV, while his parents (and other things) try to distract him from playing. That was interesting, because at that age, I also felt like my parents came up with weirdest excuses, just to get me off the console for a moment. 🙂

Also, level 2 trick with two arcade cabinets and hopping between games was quite interesting.

Sadly, from level 3 and onward, it became less entertaining and more of playing poor remakes of retro games. The Streets of Rage inspired game drags on too long and is oversimplified, as are other games.

I completed this game, just to see the rest of the gimmicks it had in store. After level 3 I just ignored most enemies and collectibles, just to progress through the story.

Wonderfully creative encapsulation of what gaming felt like in the 90's

I really enjoyed how creative this game was, incorporating old-school video gaming from the 90's with the modern elements of VR gaming. They do a great job crafting a fun, if perfunctory, story that somehow makes you feel both like a little kid again and like a video game hero.

I think this game has a great graphical style, from the "real world" to the video games that you get to play in that world. I found the gameplay regularly surprising, too -- I was particularly impressed with the level where you play two game machines at once at the "Demo station" at the game store. I thought that was a really interesting and creative experience that really couldn't be done outside the VR world.

I recommend Pixel Ripped 1995 very strongly.

A great homage to gaming of the early 90s'

Pixel ripped is more than another retro-inspired video game of the bunch. It sets itself apart by not only its presentation but also the manner it merges two fictitious worlds. Pixel ripped is more than another retro-inspired video game of the bunch. It sets itself apart by not only its presentation but also the manner it merges two fictitious worlds. Unlike your typical video game of the 90s era, Pixel Ripped has you playing as two protagonists, simultaneously in a clever way that works. Graphically, the game looks like a less polished Pixar animation, and the games do an excellent job recreating 16-bit video games of the time.

As a child of the 90s', it was easy to be captivated by all the constant references to classics like Sonic, Streets of Rage, and Road Rash. My major complaint is that the game is short and not too challenging. Other than that, this is a great time, even in its short duration. If you are into video games of the past, this is a must. Pixel Ripped is way more than just a throwback.
