Sir, You Are Being Hunted is a procedurally-generated British horror in which tweed-wearing robots hunt you for sport. Roam the landscape, scavenge for food, hide breathlessly in the undergrowth, flee in terror, and even fight back with stolen weapons.

A glorified beta with a €20 price tag...

Sir, You Are Being Hunted is a charming concept. You (m/f) are a fop and you get dropped on an island full of robots hunting you. You have to gather 'the things' and bring them to 'the place' to escape. There's a couple of different starting options, e.g. the cook, the trapper, the officer. You scour the four (five?) islands looking for 'the things' while trying to avoid the robots and gathering items. There's weapons, food, distraction items, usable items (e.g. matches) and junk. You find them on enemies and in houses - which have no interiors, you just 'use' the doors.

The concept is fun, being hunted is quite tense and it's different from most games. Unfortunately, it's not without its problems:

The game takes several minutes to randomly generate the world. When it's done an introductory video starts playing. I missed half of it because i was in the kitchen. If you have long loading times, don't automatically start anything at the end but bring up a "click to continue" prompt.

The controls are clunky, you can't simply drag items from your (non-auto-sorting) inventory to drop them, you have to right-click on them to bring up a menu …

The game takes several minutes to randomly generate the world. When it's done an introductory video starts playing. I missed half of it because i was in the kitchen. If you have long loading times, don't automatically start anything at the end but bring up a "click to continue" prompt.

The controls are clunky, you can't simply drag items from your (non-auto-sorting) inventory to drop them, you have to right-click on them to bring up a menu that includes the "drop" option. This gets old real quick.

After finding the second 'thing' i looked everywhere but just couldn't find the third one. You have to look for smoke but i only found fireplaces i couldn't use, because both of the "easy" starting options lack matches and i didn't find any in the 35 minutes i played. Which is kinda confusing.

The buildings are really really low resolution. Seriously, it's sometimes hard to tell what part is the door.

At some point i tried to get to a part of the island i hadn't been to. There was a poorly generated gap in between. I fell in the water. There was no way to get out. I couldn't even swim out to sea.

Asking €20 for a semi-finished game is just an insult.

Did not connect

This game really did not jive with me. Too aimless, too freeform. The lack of a clear objective in the world (where to go?) and the constant time pressure due to hunger combined to make me feel uncomfortable. This may have been assuaged by some story elements or sophisticated systems, but none exist in this game.

Wanted to like it but didn't.
