The soldier
- The combat is satisfyingly brutal, all the moves are brutally realistic but it can get a bit repetitive at times; you have only two attacks and like three combos, the melee weapons can't combo at all. But those limited options are well made.
- The game really makes you feel outmatched in a large crowd, try to fight a horde of enemies while alone, and if you aren't spamming rage you are going to die in less than a minute. You aren't a super soldier, you are just a goon fightning other goons who are just as strong as you.
- The ambiance is really well done. New York looks just like in the movie, dirty, dystopic, ugly, etc.
- They got the soundtrack of the movie, so you aren't going to miss the tunes if you loved the film.
- The game not only remakes, but also enhances and expands the plot of the movie. It tells you the story of how the gang started, how they got invited to the meeting with Cyrus, shows their struggles and loses far better than the movie, etc.
- It has a simple multiplayer mode that's very addicting, it has many modes (King of the hill, off the platform, 1 vs 1, 4 vs 4, 9 vs 9, capture Mercy/the flag, burner battle, etc).
The curbstomp
- Like I mentioned in the good points, this turns into a bad point in the higher difficulties. Several missions force you to fight entire hordes of enemies, and they are going to kill you extremely fast because they do like twice the damage.
- The game never gives you the marker for secondary objectives, this made the game very frustrating to me at times because I had to look up guides to find what I missed, or forced me to repeat the mission because I locked myself out. And guess what? The game doesn't save when you complete them, so if you die and miss the objective you are going to get pissed.
- Fightning the cops is a nightmare, no idea why Rockstar made them so annoying to beat; worst thing is that the game forces you to fight them at times. They will counter your grabs, they'll swarm you in groups, their nightsticks do tons of damage, etc. At higher difficulties, fightning the cops is like trying to to destroy a brick wall with a broom stick.
- Most gang members from other factions have recycled moves, this can get a bit annoying in the versus mode.
Conclusion
The Warriors is probably one of the best movie based games ever made, easily. The combat is simple but brutal and realistic, the soundtrack from the movie fits perfectly, the ambience is one to one, etc. But at higher difficulties? This game becomes hell.
