Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star is an action video game in the Fate/stay night series. The game is a single-player action game in which the player takes the role of a "master", who works together with spirits known as servants, who fight large numbers of enemies. The player can name the master, and can decide if they should be male or female. There are sixteen playable servants in the game, divided into eight classes: Saber, Archer, Lancer, Caster, Assassin, Rider, Berserker, and Extra Class. Different servants have different fighting styles: the Saber swordswoman Nero Claudius has powerful sword skills and balanced abilities; the Caster magus Tamamo no Mae can use magic skills; and the Saber swordswoman Attila uses a violent battle style. Here we have a franchise, put into the Warriors mold and relying entirely too much on knowing the series already to get the most out of it. The fate franchise has a lot of potential in the video game market unfortunately this one for is not as entertaining as i hoped, this game doesn’t do anything these type of games(Warriors) haven’t done before. if you are a fan of the fate series you'll definitely be entertain from time to time just by seeing how characters interact and their personality however It’s the epitome of being a game for fans and only for the fans if they like the gameplay loop, i really just wish they make an original game based on the fate franchised. I have nothing against the warriors series it works with some game series like hyrule warrior but for me this is just a chore to play. This "Warrior-ising" of franchises is slowly wearing down the existence of more unique games. Disappointing.

And another game done on my list, I went through the whole main story. If you enjoyed Fate you would like seeing all the characters again, for a musou game its decent but mega unfair against you compared to other games like the Dynasty Warriors series. The story was okay, but does get a bit repetitive when you have to go through each of the main characters before going back to the first one in the final arc. The story parts do play out as a kind of visual novel with sometiems a bit of action being shown. I rate this 3 out of 5 stars as I did enjoy my time playing it, but it has many faults so I think around average is good. However I would only recommend it to those that enjoy the Fate series in general, this game definitely prefers you to know who the characters are (even spoils the secret identity on them all apart from one).
