Doing the Splatfest this weekend. I'm on team mint chip. I love Splatoon in general, but so much of the success in the game is random. Do you get put on a good team or not? Even if you are a great player, but are put on a bad team, you have no chance at winning. And while these Splatfests …

Easily the best single player Splatoon experience. Really liked the small exploration elements in this game and they found a good way to make use of the golden eggs. The skill tree was simple enough to understand and the progression was engaging enough to keep me interested. Small fry is the best. Spoilers for late game:

I can't really speak to any of the multiplayer elements as far as balance is concerned, but they made nice QoL improvements over the 2nd game and added neat cosmetic stuff to customize your profile with.
For QoL, they added the ability to kind of skip the multiplayer stage announcements and play them in the background instead of making you watch them. Another nice addition is the ability to queue in a party with friends. In Splat2, you had to join a friend's lobby that was already in session rather than queuing at the same time, which got frustrating when the maps changed and you just had to hope the lobby had enough space for you to play with your friends. Another nice change is that when you exit the spawn point, you can choose a landing zone. This change makes it a bit tougher to get spawn camped like in S2.
The added locker, icon, title, and banner customization is such a small addition, but it adds the chance to show off more of your personality. In a game that has a strong element of showing off your style, I think these are welcome additions.
Overall, S3 was such a nice surprise. The small adjustments felt like Nintendo actually listening to the fans and their complaints about S2. Can't really speak about Grizzco (Salmon Run), tabletop, or multiplayer just yet, but I'll probably give my thoughts on the multiplayer after playing it a bit more.

I think I'm playing this game wrong. That, or the single player campaign is not that polished. I feel like I've been playing the same stages over and over again and the stages that are actually difficult aren't difficult because they are difficult but because some weapons are incredibly poor choices for that particular challenge.
The worst part is that …

The worst part is that even after playing the same things over and over again, I don't feel like I'm getting better at the game at all.

Having fun so far, want to dive more into single player but matches are a blast and really like tower control, just need to get good

Things I want in future Splatoon 3 patches:
King Salmonid Chohozuna needs to be easier to beat. I've yet to come close to beating it a single time and I'm not bad at Salmon Run. When we don't all die, we're usually unable to get in enough hits to kill it before the time runs out. Buff the eggs plz! …

Let me choose colours. I keep getting confused by the constantly changing colours. At the very least, colour lock should completely lock my colour, not just lock it to one set of colours.
Make it easier to earn money. Like, holy shit, I run out constantly ... There's sooo much more stuff to buy in this game and the stuff costs a lot, so I keep being unable to afford stuff and having to do lots of matches to get a single item ...
Give us ways to get stuff from older catalogs down the line plz. I want the emote you get at catalog lvl 76 and the glasses you get at lvl 79 but I'm currently at lvl 21 and there's just no way I'll manage to reach those levels in time before there's a new catalog ... There is no good reason to make those times exclusive items, so plz, give us a way to aquire those later.
When the 2-year support ends for the game, please make it possible to play stuff like tricolor battle and big run. Don't just make those modes time-exclusive that'll never come back if you didn't play the game at the right time.

Splatoon 3 feels more like the definitive Splatoon experience than it does advancing the series, more refinement and polish and less pushing new ground. While it offers a lot of fun modes and content, the horrendous online connection issues and some wonky menu system design to hamper the overall experience.

I'm guessing the constant connection issues is somewhat due to the large current player base and record initial sales? It is pretty awful and embarrassing for the 3rd installment, on the same platform as the previous to installment, to have such critical issues right out of the gate though.

It also may just be me, but trying to manage everything goin on and learn to aim with the gyro controls is really overwhelming and frustrating.

Lots of online connectivity issues in this game. How they don’t have this stuff right at this point, I don’t know. I had too many matches end early today due to connection issues or not make it past the loading screen. Still works most of the time though, and it’s a fun game just like the prior ones.

Pretty much an expansion on the Splatoon 2 formula but I like that there is more variety to the single player levels. I really like the concept around the multiplayer turf wars but man the competition is fierce and I don’t know that I have the stamina to get gud. Still I am enjoying myself so far.

I'll see what the competition is like as for how far I plan to go for ranked modes. I went for S rank in all modes asides from Clam Blitz in Splatoon 2, but right now competition is still tough at B- as that's where all of Splatoon 2's veterans start at. Also this game is tough on my fingers / fore arms to be playing long term too.

Played this game for a few hours now. I can't understand how this can be Nintendo game, because everything just goes so smoothly. QoL-improvements has been amazing and everything just works so well. Gameplay-wise there hasn't been major changes, but the core mechanics worked so well already in previous installments, there really aint any reasons to change anything.

Its just pure fun playing this game! Cant wait to see how ranked battles and coop game mode spice things up, when I have a chance to try these!
