The Deadest of Islands

Revisiting Dead Island in this remastered package is a nice trip down memory lane, the visuals look nice and the atmosphere is as immersive as ever. That's really where the praise for this game ends though as it has aged quite poorly over the years.

Really, if you're buying this game then you're doing so for either the location or the story. The combat and zombie-survival-fantasy are great but frankly other games just do it far better. Dying light 1 and 2 for example offer the same mechanics as dead island but expand upon them, adding parkour. 7 Days to die offers far greater looting and survival mechanics if you're looking for that kind of gameplay.

Although this game is on sale at the moment (£2) even the rock bottom price isn't worth it in my opinion, you will only be met with disappointment as you try and relive those fond memories of early dead island days that are now just boring and lacklustre compared to the competition. If you haven't played the game yet, or you're looking for a co-op story based zombie game and you aren't a fan of dying light then perhaps give it a shot.

It should also be noted that this Definitive Collection may bring up errors if played on PS5. You can get around this by purchasing the 2 games separately as they both have their own definitive editions that are remastered versions and work on PS5.

When this game was released defiantly one of the best Zombie games to come out. Following after Left for Dead we were hoping for something more open world and this game delivered. When they dropped the Part 2 of this it made the game stand out more in my opinion. Overall, I give it a 5/5 because it was something fresh and new. There were defiantly bugs and error and modders between the first 2 games, but when it comes to someone stepping out of the box to push the dynamics of a zombie game this was it for me. If you didn't play this in 2011-2014 you missed out bigtime. And yes, I was crazy enough to by this game twice at the time of release.
