The evil Altair is using the Omni Cube to drain the energy from Planet Bomber. With the aid of a mysterious helper, you must defeat Altair, and restore peace to Planet Bomber. In the Adventure mode, guide Bomberman through 24 areas of perilous conflict. Battle Altair's sinister allies, destroy their bases and put an end to the insane attack. The multi-player Battle mode offers endless hours of explosive action. Use the standard Bomberman character or create a custom one and save it to an N64 Controller Pak.

Charming and fun enough for a full playthrough
This review is for the Nintendo 64 version

This game isn't anything amazing but has a definite charm to it. Single player isn't super engaging but is enough fun to complete. I especially liked the bosses. The multiplayer can be a lot of fun but there are better/more modern bomberman games that can scratch that itch. If you're an N64 junkie and haven't given this a shot yet it's worth playing, but don't try to 100% the single player unless you reeeeeallly love this game.

Single ain't great
This review is for the Nintendo 64 version

The single player mode was not a fun time for me. The classic Bomberman mechanic of insta killing yourself with your own bomb doesn't translate well into a 3d platformer lol.

I remember multiplayer being very fun but alas, I have no friends sick enough to play this with me.

Krauzer's review of Bomberman 64

This title is a bold and innovative reimagining of the series. Rather than sticking to the traditional top-down grid-based gameplay of its predecessors, the game ventures into fully 3D environments, a significant shift that transforms how puzzles, combat, and exploration work. The story mode places Bomberman on a quest to stop the evil Altair and his minions, featuring multiple themed worlds filled with intricate puzzles, secrets, and platforming challenges.

The transition to 3D allows for new gameplay mechanics, like the ability to pick up and throw bombs, stack them, or use their explosions to launch Bomberman into the air, an essential skill for reaching hidden areas and solving environmental puzzles. This design encourages experimentation and rewards careful timing and spatial awareness. Each stage is packed with collectible items and hidden gold cards that unlock extra content, adding depth and replay value.

The multiplayer mode, while slower and less frantic than the classic SNES versions, introduces spherical arenas and vertical layouts that make matches feel more tactical. You must think in three dimensions, planning bomb placements and escape routes with greater precision. It was quite a blast back in the day since very few people managed to master the 3D mechanics …

The multiplayer mode, while slower and less frantic than the classic SNES versions, introduces spherical arenas and vertical layouts that make matches feel more tactical. You must think in three dimensions, planning bomb placements and escape routes with greater precision. It was quite a blast back in the day since very few people managed to master the 3D mechanics of the transition, when compared to the classics, especially when it comes to the fast-paced multiplayer matches.

Visually, it captures the colorful charm of the series, with expressive characters, varied environments, and a distinctive polygonal style that defines late-’90s Nintendo 64 aesthetics. The OST is upbeat and atmospheric, matching each world’s tone perfectly. Though some fans missed the fast-paced simplicity of earlier entries, this game stands out as one of the franchise’s most creative and ambitious installments. It successfully blends puzzle-solving, exploration, and classic combat into a cohesive 3D adventure that remains both nostalgic and genuinely engaging.

A comparison

"GROUVEE. Powered by GiantBomb".

Bomberman 64: the same too but with a space between Giant and Bomb.

On world 5 stage 3 and will probably complete today. Not going for 100% as that's mental.

Not really enjoying this single player but I like the vibes and it's so short I might as well finish it
