Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie. Darker still are the secrets inscrybed upon the cards...

I am simply in love with this game. The definition of an indie game.

OK, so far this thing is really living up to the hype. I think I'm halfway through the game? I don't know. It's pretty wild.

Ok, I’ve played an hour of this maybe? It’s getting hard, but it doesn’t seem like it matters? I don’t know what to think about this thing yet. I’m compelled to play it again. That’s about all I know.

I just played this for the entire afternoon and am about to go play more after dinner, so that kinda says it all.

Spoilery discussion:

I’ve kinda figured out up until a “thing” where I have gotten this film reel and have to beat the dude to use his camera. I made it to that battle and lost… oh well, this game is more fun for me to play than the average roguelike game so I don’t mind running through again until I get it. Didn’t enjoy even a card-based one like Slay the Spire nearly this much. There are some really powerful combos of things in the card part of this game that feel fun to use, my favorite being the totem making squirrels unkillable to summon tons of units and accumulate bones as well. Of course this is not even taking into account all the stuff outside the card game which I have enjoyed poking around in quite a bit. I wonder why you can’t select “new game” in the menu… very curious…

Edit: Ok now I know why and I am not sure how I feel about that…

I've seen people discussing this but I didn't realize it is a Daniel Mullins game (Pony Island).

Just here to evangelize about Inscryption, which came out today and is... unbelievable. I recommend not really looking much up about it, if you can. There's a demo on Steam if you want to try it, but definitely avoid spoilers if you can. Elevator pitch here is that its a roguelike deckbuilder, that's also an escape room horror game. But …

Inscryption has been under my radar even since the developer Daniel Mullins announced a year ago he is going to turn his excellent Ludum Dare entry Sacrifices Must Be Made into a full game. After playing the demo, which was just released on Steam with the release date October 19, I couldn't be more excited. Mullins proves once again his talent of building a strong atmosphere which pulls you into his beautifully twisted visions.
