Gris is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. Every screenshot I've taken of this game feels like a painting.
That in and of itself isn't terribly surprising. I watched gameplay trailers before purchasing, after all.
What was surprising was how much I liked the game beneath all that visual loveliness. (Light spoilers ahead.)

You see, I avoided playing Gris for a while after reading that it was about

Like Journey and Fez before it, Gris is deep... but the experience remains pleasant and rewarding throughout. I'm excited to play it again!
What really impressed me about this game was how the developer was able to intertwine art, music, and gameplay so beautifully. I was stunned at the complexity and amount of details that were inducted into the game and its environment. The puzzles although not complicated were fun and did not slow the gameplay down. Overall a great and short adventure from an indie game that really showcases how amazing art and music can create something unique and exceptional.

Gorgeous platformer with lovely music. Gameplay is also pretty neat.
Comparing this to Celeste it's clear to me that lineart > pixelart.
Holy shit. This was amazing. Never seen anything so beautiful. Never felt like a platformer gave any damns about whether I could enjoy it before. Literally perfect. I'll replay this.
What a beautiful experience. As I was told by a few friends here. The point of GRIS is not the platforming or the puzzles, but the emotions and feelings that the art, music and design of the world cause in you.
And what a great art, music and design GRIS have! I was absolutely in awe of the scenarios and the soothing melodies helped me relax after a hard day. I never rushed in this game, I just wanted to let the colors and melodies to envolve me. The plot is very surreal, but is not hard to get what is it about.
The only reason I don't give it five stars its because the navigation got me a little confused at first. There are a few collectables that you can get for an extra scene at the end. But most of the times there's not an indication or clue about which one is the critical path and which one is the optional with the reward, and if you choose the main path you probably cannot go back until the end of the game, when the chapter selection is unlocked. It's not a difficult game, there's no bosses to beat, you don't die, you don't attack. You just relax and enjoy the beautiful game.
There is a rather powerful story being told here. I was impressed how it was able to tell the story without any dialogue. The music and art was stunning.
A beautiful melancholic piece with mesmerizing graphics and amazing music. Some puzzles were really fun and I enjoyed the playthrough a lot.
One thing I didn't like was that one unexpected jumpscare that I didn't see coming AT ALL and I almost pissed myself :D rude game.. rude :D
At the end of the game, when I understood what is the story actually about I bawled. If you're in a mood for puzzle/platform/indie with a deep meaning, don't hesitate to play this <3
+Amazing art direction
+Inspiring soundtrack and sound design
+Satisfying controls and character animation
+Creative puzzles
+Really epic moments which combine all elements to give a sense of grandure
-Some textures feel low res when zoomed in in certain scenes
-Feels a bit arbitrary on which obstacles can be passed through and which ones block your path. I get that it is purposeful in some cases, to create certain puzzles, but I just wish it would make the blocked paths more obvious to the player.
Sure the art's nice, but did we really need ANOTHER side-scrolling puzzle-platformer about depression or mental health or whatever? I can't be the only one that feels no emotional connection to these games other than a tinge of cringe. At least this one has a couple clever puzzles and isn't completely braindead. Call me a cynic, but I am starting to believe that most of these "important" indie games are really just another genre with a demographic that can be successfully marketed to at this point -- or do the devs really think they are succeeding in being expressive of something here? I don't know. Not trying to be a hater, but the primary emotion I felt while playing GRIS is boredom and that just ain't great.
This might just be the best game I've ever played. Even though you can't die its constantly interesting gameplay, as new abilities are added over time and combined. The game look fabulous, what a work of art! The music is relaxing and feels completely integrated in the game. Story is not at the forefront but by the end a tear still came to my eye. For everyone who wants a relaxing, rewarding experience.
I am a psychologist, and when I say it was therapeutic to play this, I mean it. No need to rush, no need to make haste for this small game. Even 10 minutes a day feels calming and soothing to an amazing level. It is aesthetically beautiful and the music compliments the nature of the game perfectly. The use of colors, the minimalist controls and the 'no failure' game mode makes this a remarkable experience. A must try for anyone and everyone.
This game is a visually stunning and emotionally charged indie platformer, It tells the story of a young woman navigating grief, expressed through a wordless journey across surreal, watercolor landscapes that evolve as she regains strength and abilities. There isn't really much of a plot going on, it is a much more artistic game, more than a regular traditional one that has a mainline story and characters, so don't expect much on this regard.
The game stands out for its breathtaking hand-drawn art and fluid animations, paired with a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack that reacts dynamically to the player’s progress. Each area introduces new mechanics, such as turning heavy to resist winds or gliding gracefully, all woven seamlessly into the theme of emotional recovery. The puzzles and platforming in general aren't much of a challenge, though this is really not the point this game is trying to make.
The gameplay is simple and accessible, focusing more on atmosphere and exploration than challenge. There are no enemies, death screens, or complex systems, just gentle platforming and puzzles that emphasize flow and immersion. This makes GRIS feel more like an interactive piece of art than a traditional game.

Some people have praised GRIS for its beauty, emotional resonance, and cohesive design, though some note its linearity and short playtime of around four to five hours. Still, for those seeking a meditative and artistically rich experience, GRIS is regarded as one of the most memorable indie releases of its time. I only recommend this one if you are really into alternative games, and stay away if you are looking for anything that isn't even slightly exotic to any extent.
Finished GRIS. GRIS is an evocative, ethereal experience you don't want to miss. A journey to process and overcome grief.
Gris is the testament that video games can be art. It's a truly masterful blend of form, flair, and function pinned in place with languid visuals, an evocative journey that sends you spinning through a story that never says a word. (Yes, NO WORDS) Please know that Gris is the very antonym to every shooty-bang-bang blockbuster you've ever clapped eyes on. It is a complete game in all senses of the word, and whilst its four-ish hour run time is admittedly a tad short, it's satisfying in a way few games really are, packed with traditional gaming mechanics - platforming, puzzles, boss fights, special abilities - that are presented in a fresh yet familiar way. Gris never felt like its about the destination, Gris is an experience.
There are more words I could drop in here - gentle, whimsical, evocative, emotional, magical, ethereal, therapeutic - but if I've learned nothing else from Gris, it's the truth in that old adage, "a picture paints a thousand words".

Just finished this beautiful light platformer. Right up my alley, not frustrating or overly challenging, just fun to work through the ever expanding world with nice little twists and game mechanics added in along the way. Culminates in you needing to use them all at the end.
Finished this game. It is absolutely amazing. It is more art than game, the way it uses colour to tell a story. And the music is absolutely breath-taking. If you are looking for a puzzle game with a unique and amazing art style, please give GRIS a try!
Has anyone tried the game GRIS? It's a short but extremely beautiful game, not just in graphics, but in an artistic way. I just started playing and it has been as absolute pleasure! If you have played it please let me know, would love to read your thoughts on that. If you have not, I suggest you give it a try, it is a joy to play!
Ok! So going to finish the game with my best friend. He like super sad. They had to put his dog down and he is completely torn up about it. And it make me sad because he sad and it just sucks to lose a companion you had for 16 years that way. I suggest: HEY let play a game that about death???? He agrees!!! (whispers to the dark and anyone who listening may it help me see what so grand about it. seriously, I'm still finding this game boring AF If not than I'm just completely dead inside....😌🤷🏽♀️ ) but maybe it will help him? And help get another game off my list.
Win-win 😌
Sigh*....I'm such a great friend
Gris is like playing a work of art.......or walking in some ones dream
To me, this game is proof that video games can be art. How can something be so beautiful and deep without a single word? The guys at Nomada Studio manage to pull all the right strings just by using color and music. I can't believe how glad I am to live in a time where this exists.
I was given this as a gift and it was one of the first games I ever played on my switch. I absolutely loved it.
Wow, this really is a great game.
Thank you Grouvee for reminding me to play my Switch. No one reminded me specifically but just the awesome community of Grouvee and sharing a love of video games inspired me to pick up my console. It's a Switch Lite Dialga and Palkia. I'm nostalgic for Pokemon.
How am I 10 hours in and havn't beat it yet? Average completion I'm seeing is 4 hours. lol What am I doing. - I'm not trying to get everything but it seems like some parts you have to do to progress? I do get stuck here and there but not for a long amount of time or anything. Sorta Spoilers so don't read next paragraph. I am enjoying it I mean it's visually stunning and the gameplay is nice, but once I put it down it's hard for me to pick back up.
For those who've played - I'm at the water level, am I close to being done?
You know me. I really love small indie games, ambiguous narratives and pretty aesthetics, but that doesn't mean every game that check on those is a good experience.
That said, is GRIS worth it for this price (switch)?
Thanks!
