I didn't have that much fun - blood and tragedy

I can't recommend this game, which I'm actually surprised to say. I can't recommend this game, which I'm actually surprised to say. It's definetly not all bad, the game has good mechanics, beautiful landscapes and much going for it but it's the main story and lack of varied things to do in the open world that drags it down. I loved the second game which I played first but this one shares similiar issues with Ghost of Tsushima but is not as good due to the story. I'll keep it fairly short to my reasons why: John comes across as truly naive when time and time again believing obvious liars that they'll help him. Fine if it happens once or twice but he never learns and the missions you do for these liars are of similar kind. The story has no positive elements, even an awful life as John's with all the hardship can't possibly involve so much missery and bloodshed - making it feel unbelievable and I can't be emerged in the story. It's not just killing for a cause, John has no real cause, "he just want to be left alone with his family" and can seemingly kill anyone, any good or bad person to move an inch closer to that. Some people you learn to know in the story (friends even?) suddenly gets shot and dies and John's not even reacting to it! It's not a protagonist you want be playing as even though John has some good qualities - I like him but his actions doesn't match his portrayed personality. This game can probably be a lot of fun for 14 year old boys due to all the action but I can't like it with the injustifiable paths the story takes. The world is vast and good looking, I like being in it but I never came across that many things of interest and when I find a side-mission it always ends tragically.

The game is repetitive in tragedy and it really drags it down, some variation in what you do would really help it. Play the second one but you can skip this one imo - just read the spoilers tbh, it's not much story you're missing.

Voto: 9/10
