Aquatic-Themed Text Adventure With Frustrating Deaths, But Otherwise Solid

Look: 7/10 I had to settle with the '84 DOS/PC version, because I couldn't get the CoCo/Dragon version to work. Great opening screen with animation (which, based on a playthrough of the CoCo version I watched, at least it's quite the same) enter image description here

(the water is flowing, is the animation.). I dig the house too :-p sorry we broke your window to get in lol enter image description here

And the out-on-the-sea screens were quite nice.

Play: 6/10 Ew, random deaths. And a less advanced parser than some of the text adventures released the same year, let alone The Hobbit released the year prior. While I do love that I could check my score and have that traditional text adventure treasure hunt feel, I just wasn't motivated to push through after my 2nd death in the water.

Feel: 7/10 I love the concept and idea--aquatic games intrigue me. And I just love water. If I could live in a water park or hotel-with-a-pool, I would (I know I know, it's not sanitary). And while I like the straightforward treasure hunt gameplay, the random deaths (even with a save function) just made me not wanna push through. Maybe I'm "growing past" text adventures unless they have a striking innovation that's well-executed, like that one where you switch between Hercules and Jason. They really gotta stand out at this point, and I've never much enjoyed the try-and-try-and-try purely because of RNG aspect of text adventures.

Attachment: 7/10 Maybe I'd give it another shot to get to 100% but I will have to have taken a long break from text adventures. For whatever reason, this title, look, concept and gameplay does make me want to return, but hopefully I will wait for the right time, maybe after I get a bit tired of platformer dominance in late 80s through the 90s.

Completion: I had the Ring and Mirror stored, but kept dying in the water Playtime: ~30 mins
