As a game, ENA: Dream BBQ reminds me a bit of Sludge Life or Smile For Me. First-person perspective, exploration-based puzzles, a bit lo-fi, pretty wacky.
But as an experience, ENA stands out by delivering a ton of surprise and some spectacular animation. I'm very much looking forward to future chapters!
(Chapter 1)
This is a fun little adventure game whose only currently available chapter can be completed in 60-90 min, with some replayability and more chapters apparently on the way. Its style is great, very surreal characters, environments, and writing which are presented in a colorful mix of art styles and languages. Most of the best parts of the game are simply static conversations with these different characters, which are basically all distinct, nicely voice acted, and funny. The goofy old CDI games and some of the associated weird humor definitely appear to have been an influence on the visuals and comedy, though the game plays more like a "walking sim". There are some light bits of puzzling and platforming, optional quests and hidden things, but the game is pretty straightforward overall. I was having trouble getting through games recently, so this was a nice one I can recommend that is quick and reasonably enjoyable and memorable.
The art direction is great here, unique and fun. One of those LSD walking sim that really earns the drugs, so to speak.
It's incredibly made, and it's also free? I don't understand the move there,e but so be it. I'm also not an ENA fan from before. People recommend it to me, but I don't think I really get it. Seems random just for the sake of being random, I don't find much enjoyment or fun walking around in this world, just a solid sitting migraine.
Not for me.
I had no idea what I was getting into when starting this game I didin't even know that it's like a series or smt. Just thought it was a standalone story/game but I guess not? It was really amazing though the art style is so so sosodooooo pretty love it so much and it's just honestly so sick and funny. I'll def check out the other ENA stuff (and ofc the new chapters when they come out for the game) so this is after I finished the first chapter
