The game does relate to the movies by including scenes from all three movies, with new background speech by Ian McKellen (Gandalf). There are seven playable characters in the game which have been created specifically for it, as well a small appearances by characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Eowyn, Faramir, and Gothmog. A classic RPG game, The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age has gameplay elements similar to Final Fantasy, where you have a party of characters, each with a different set of skills and attributes, who gain levels, making them stronger as the game progresses. Battles are turn-based, and let the gamer make different decisions on what they want to do to change the outcome of the battle. The game travels through many areas throughout Tolkien's Middle Earth, including The Pelennor Fields and Moria. Less

Lord of the Rings Fanfiction Playing Like Final Fantasy

I really enjoyed my time with Third Age.

This isn't a great game. It's story is fun nonsense. The characters are barely there. But that's fine, it's a blast playing through the trilogy story.

The gameplay is legit, it's Final Fantasy wearing a Lord of the Rings skin and it works SO well!

The length is pretty spot on, beatable in 24-28 hours, which I think is perfect for something this style.

The pacing is largely good, but at the end, it felt a bit rushed. Jumping from scene to scene and just sort of ending. No conclusion scenes or dialogue, no finale, just a weird final fight and then shift to the main menu.

Overall I like this game a lot. I don't think its great, but if you go in with the right mindset you should have a lot of fun.

So once I realized Berethor had an ability that prevents stuns, the fights against the Oliphaunts became much easier. Beat Sauron on my second attempt. Took a tad over 26 hours to beat the game and overall I enjoyed it. The story can be a bit nonsensical in relation to the films at times. I'm a big fan of the Lord of the Rings though so for me it was worth overlooking some of that stuff to just enjoy questing through Middle-Earth. If you aren't a fan of the source material there's probably not enough here to keep you invested. If you are though and also enjoy RPG's it's a decent enough playthrough. On to the next RPG!

Made it through Moria and just got Morwen in my group. Like the dual wielding but man is she squishy when you get her. Need to upgrade her armor and stats. Been having fun playing through this.

This is a travesty of a game that I thoroughly enjoyed playing. In the game, you literally follow the fellowship, just a step behind them. The graphics are clunky, the whole thing is clearly a rip off of the movies, but I had so much fun playing it.

And the last boss is, well, amazing.

Idk if it was our memory card or our ps2, but we tried two different copies of this game, and it always froze when we were about to fight the balrog. T_T
