When mom doesn't want you to play shooter games

I have no idea if this game was any good but I loved it as a child so I don't care. The environment and atmosphere brought me so much joy. The sound of getting a kill is so satisfying. It's been like 6 years since I played this game but I have nothing but good memories of it.

Garden Warfare is a shooter/tower defense hybrid. And it sucks.

The shooter part: You can fire and aim. You have 3 abilities. That's it. If you play as a Sunflower you can shoot, heal a nearby plant, deploy a plant that drops health or temporarily become a tower with a beam attack. In a game like TF2 movement is a big part of the gameplay, but here you're defending a guarding and mostly you're just walking around a bit. It's boring.

The tower defense part: Towers are drops from booster packs. Completing a map gives ~6K gold (solo gives +3K). A 1K gold pack gives 0-3 towers. More expensive packs have an even worse rate and also drop cosmetics. Packs can also contain a 'quest skip token'. Or zombies. It's a truly terrible system. Oh, and you can only place towers at pre-determined locations.

There are only 8 maps with 2 having a nightmode. There's a bunch of gamemodes but when i searched for a game i found nothing. Solo you can only play the standard "defend the garden" mode.

I love PvZ. I love TF2. I love Tower Defense, even genre-wise very similar games like Orcs Must Die or Sanctum. But this is just awful. There's also constant waiting. When booting, when starting a map, et cetera. What a disappointment. :/
