The Battlefield That Never Was

I'm not sure if Grouvee has the biggest FPS fanbase but those of you who adored the golden age of Battlefield may have been dissapointed with the recent installments.

Enter Battlebit Remastered. Battlebit is a low polygon shooter heavily inspired by battlefield. What makes it unique is that it combines all the best features of military simulators and arcade shooters like battlefield, and mashes them together in beautiful organised chaos.

Like battlefield, it's multiplayer focused and features 127 v 127 players matches, as well as the typical smaller matches. Thanks to the low polygon style almost everything is destructible, this low poly style also makes the game hugely accessible to virtually every PC and laptop owner known to humankind.

Some of the military sim features in the game are things like checking your magazines, combing magazine ammo from half spent magazines, dragging downed friendlies to be healed, squad leaders that issue commands, proximity chat and other channels, leaning, abseiling down ropes and the option to cut the rope - I love all of these features. The game is also packed with guns, maps, vehicles, and cosmetics. You rank up by simply... playing. You rank up your guns by... killing people! …

I think one thing this game would really benefit from is a commander role. The sound design could also do with some improvement, but for what it is, its fine.

The art style was jarring at first, it reminded me too much of Roblox. However, as you play, something strange happens - your brain starts to fill in the blanks. Where my eyes see a blocky human crouching next to a grey block with pretty much flat shading everywhere, my brain sees a soldier taking cover next to a concrete bollard whilst enemy fire whips over his head. The power your imagination has to fill in these gaps on the fly is incredible and it's really a testiment to how this game is showing that substance and feature rich mechanics is often more important than glossy visuals.

The community is what really makes this game special though, it seems to have attracted all of the people who wanted something a bit more hardcore from the newest battlefield installment, and so what you end up with are tons of people actually using voice chat, some people are role playing, others are providing hilarious voice lines mid battle "I WANT MY MOMMY" as an rpg shoots past their head. The community seem heavly engaged with the game and they seem to place the emphasis on fun and team work instead of lone wolfing solo play.

Passion > Budget

This is a game developed by 3 devs during a 7 year span. Battlefield 2043 was developed for 15 months, but it had (according to Wikipedia) the largest developement team.

Not only does this show that pumping more money and people into something doesn't magically make it better, but also that no matter the size and cost, the most important thing is a clear direction and passion for the project.

I hope for the game to keep evolving and for the devteam to become larger so to keep the ball rolling.

Time-to-Kill is way too short for me on this.

An incredibly fun FPS game. It feels like what the last few battlefields should have been.

The game runs smooth, has a lot of variety in servers, classes, maps etc. Especially considering it was made by three developers.

Proxy chat with teammates & enemies is a lot of fun. The game is competitive but low stakes so there's not a whole lot of toxicity.

The game can only get better from here, I've already got 70+ hours in the game and am looking forward to another 70. For sure worth the 15 eur I spent.

Ps if the graphics put you off, don't let them. At worst they are funny and 99% of the time you don't even consider them because how engaging the gameplay is.
