This review is for the Nintendo Switch version

I borrowed this from the library, thinking I could get some enjoyment out of it despite having seen the low review scores online. I thought, hey, I'm not as critical as a lot of other people, and I love Zoids, this can't be that bad.

Turns out it.... is pretty bad.

Nothing is functionally wrong with the game. It runs fine and looked nice enough in handheld mode, if a bit jagged at times, and I didn't encounter any bugs. However, it's just incredibly lifeless. All the attacks were the same, the battles played out the same, with nothing requiring any thought or strategy or anything other than mashing the A button and hitting R and L for the big attack after you've filled the meter. I recognized the Zoids involved, yes, but they just didn't feel like Zoids. They could be any attacking animal. I ended up quitting pretty soon, having decided that while it was easy, it wasn't worth finishing.

It's disappointing, since there are so few Zoids games localized for North America. It seems they have trouble figuring out how to make the franchise work in a game. Just skip this one, no matter how much you …
