A wonderful game with an incredible amount of depth and replay value.
You can play as Rue or Mint, both drastically different gameplay styles and storylines that kind of freak me out now that I think about how different they are and the fact that they are both in the same game.
Rue's storyline is super sad. He is stranded and without memory when a young woman takes him in and they end up living together joyfully. He hunts and gathers firewood, doing all of the gruntwork while the maiden of the house cooks and cleans and together they take care of eachother. One day, something terrible happens and he ends up losing her. Rue seeks to avenge her, and chases lead after lead constantly running into dead ends. One of the villain's henchmen is a shapeshifter, and it was sort of a touching moment whenever she shapeshifted into Rue's lost loved one.
Mint is sort of a ditzy character, whose main motivation is to find strong magic in order to overthrow her sister. The two of them are royalty and it seems that she is always the one who is deemed inferior. By who, I'm not quite sure. I guess her sister is the eldest. Her story is a more or less comical one which is driven by the competitive nature of the character.
Rue is a fighter who shapeshifts, Mint is a wizard/witch. The game is very well designed as each character has very many different choices to decide upon when faced with an obstacle. Rue takes the form of former enemies and Mint's magic is somewhat based upon attacks from enemy monsters as well.
The story is great and the game mechanics are smooth and enjoyable, though sometimes I feel the camera angle is a bit annoying and difficult to control. I hope you give it a try. It is quite a treat.
You can also get the "good ending" by completing both story arcs! I did this many years ago and I don't remember the ending!
