Super Mario 3D World is a 3D platformer action game for the Wii U, and a follow-up of the Nintendo 3DS installment Super Mario 3D Land. The game builds upon the previous installment, following a similar 3D level-design convention inspired from the 2D platformer titles where players must navigate through a linear-designed level within a time limit to reach a level's Goal Pole. One key aspect introduced in this title is the simultaneous multiplayer: while not the first game in the series to do so, it is the first 3D title in the Mario series to incorporate up to four players cooperating with each other to reach the goal. Players can select their character from a pool of playable characters prior to starting the game, and each of these characters have their own unique playstyle that gives them advantages and disadvantages over other characters. The game makes use of several Wii U exclusive features, such as tapping blocks with the touch screen on the GamePad and blowing into the mic to reveal hidden items and blow away enemies. Various new power-ups are introduced in this title, with the trademark suit being the Cat power-up, which enables characters to perform a melee attack, climb up walls, and leap while midair, as well as the game generally having a cat-based theme. Good game that builds off of 3D land. I loved playing this with friends and the level design is great but I prefer the open world style mario games.

Finally beat Champion's road. In easy though (Peach) but, hey, I can say it's over now. Found the camera not as good as in other games overall (worse than Mario 64 even).

Wow. What a surprise. Was expecting a nice little Mario title. But this is all the way up there with the best Mario games. This game just bursts with creativity, and it just keeps going and going. Couldn't help but go for 100%, except those last 5 stamps. F that.

Now onto Bowser's Fury, which I've only heard good things …

Only giving it 4 stars because of Bowser’s Fury. Oh and here’s the filler text so I can actually post it.

So there are more stages than I expected in this one.

About 30 bonus levels after you beat the game! A pleasant surprise. And since the levels of the first eight worlds were easy to get through, it's nice to have something more challenging to tackle afterward.

IDK if I'll bother with 100% completion (I rarely do) but the challenge …

IDK if I'll bother with 100% completion (I rarely do) but the challenge of getting all the stars (and stamp) in each stage is a good way to encourage revisiting levels.

I guess this is going on the "wish list" because the Bowser's fury mode sounds worth playing despite having played the entire game on Wii U.... It's honestly a bit annoying. 😉

I can't believe this is a little over four days away. I have wanted a Switch copy of this even prior to owning a Switch. And now it's only a few more days until it's here. So excited. Can't wait to play this again.

Bowser's Fury looks to be a bit of a hybrid between Super Mario 3D World and the Mario 64 style formula. It definitely looks like it is borrowing from both based on the level design, but leans more toward Mario 64/Odyssey in terms of camera movement and level freedom. It also looks to be fun, and potentially centred around saving …

It definitely looks like it is borrowing from both based on the level design, but leans more toward Mario 64/Odyssey in terms of camera movement and level freedom. It also looks to be fun, and potentially centred around saving Bowser from himself rather than the usual captured Princess trope. Maybe that is a sign of the future of storytelling in Mario games.

This is one of my favorite Mario games of all time. This alone justified buying a Wii U. It's a fantastic game made even better with multiplayer and there's lots of great extra content as well.

Replaying levels to snag the many, many stars and stamps I missed. It's weird - the levels I played with my partner felt like chaotic gauntlets of platforming madness, but replaying alone they are super easy and straightforward. She mostly fell off ledges, so we were always on our last life. This game is such an utter delight. I want …

I am up to world 3. It is so delightful that I am going to stop playing it until I can share it with my partner. Really wonderful stuff.
