Super Mario 3D World is a 3D platformer action game for the Wii U, and a follow-up of the Nintendo 3DS installment Super Mario 3D Land. The game builds upon the previous installment, following a similar 3D level-design convention inspired from the 2D platformer titles where players must navigate through a linear-designed level within a time limit to reach a level's Goal Pole. One key aspect introduced in this title is the simultaneous multiplayer: while not the first game in the series to do so, it is the first 3D title in the Mario series to incorporate up to four players cooperating with each other to reach the goal. Players can select their character from a pool of playable characters prior to starting the game, and each of these characters have their own unique playstyle that gives them advantages and disadvantages over other characters. The game makes use of several Wii U exclusive features, such as tapping blocks with the touch screen on the GamePad and blowing into the mic to reveal hidden items and blow away enemies. Various new power-ups are introduced in this title, with the trademark suit being the Cat power-up, which enables characters to perform a melee attack, climb up walls, and leap while midair, as well as the game generally having a cat-based theme. We beat the, I guess it's called the "Castle" world in Mario 3D World over the weekend. Such wonderful level design but I will not stop complaining about the stupid, stupid time limits. They make absolutely zero sense and aren't balanced in their implementation in any way, especially when playing multiplayer! In order to get a true end of game that forces you to go back to a checkpoint you need to have all characters die together. This almost NEVER happens, whereas when in single player, any death sends you back to a checkpoint. When at the checkpoint, the time limit is set back to what it was AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LEVEL! Therefore, in multiplayer it can often make sense to just go ahead and kill yourselves, sacrificing only a few lives, rather than risk doing the challenging things necessary to get stars and stamps only to run out of time in the end. It's so stupid I just want to scream. In single player the time limit really only ever affects the player if they manage to play through an entire level without ever dying. =P

Heather and I finished off World 6 of 3D World yesterday. This is definitely a fun game, but holy crap are the time limits in the level stupid, frustrating, and ultimately pointless. Seriously, what is the point of a time limit where, if you run out, it starts you back at the checkpoint with the full amount of time again? …

Apparently they just really wanted to stifle exploration and fun. Would have been a much better implementation idea to put in a check point free time rush mode after completing a level.

I have to say, I am quite frustrated with the level time limits in Mario 3D World. It totally destroys what I think is one of the key aspects of 3D Mario games... exploration! :( I would be fine with, and actually enjoy, time rush modes in the levels that unlock after you beat them, but with them there all …

Started Mario 3D World finally, playing with my wife this weekend. Very exciting to dive into this one with her and improve her Mario skills. :) Use the run button!

Replaying from the beginning and loving the single player experience! Much less of a headache!

Overall a fantastic game. It was a fun challenging Mario game. Unfortunately there was one major let down and that was no online co-op. While I thoroughly enjoyed my multiplayer time with my sister and friends, when playing on my own it fell short of Super Mario 3D Land , in my humble opinion.

DONE! One of the best Mario games period. I absolutely loved it, but why does Nintendo feel the need to put all of the most creative and challenging stages after the end, where many players will never encounter them?
