Main game

My fiancée got me this game for my birthday.
I initially thought the "3D" in the title was just some link to 3DS version, kind of like how a few WiiU games end in "U". After playing for a bit I found that it was actually meant to signify that this was a 2D Super Mario game, but in a 3D space. It's a nice idea, and I found it quite novel. It felt like I was playing the original 2D Mario games.
I had so much fun with this game. The single player was great and the added option for drop-in multiplayer was a great addition. The main game wasn't too challenging, but I found it fun and relaxing because of this.
After finishing the main game, you are treated to a few more, extra difficult, stages. These really test your timing and jumping abilities. You are also challenged to go back and complete all the levels with each of the 5 playable characters. This is a great obstacle for any completionist playing the game.
Once that's complete, you are rewarded with the game's final world, World Crown. In this world there are 3 levels, and one of them, …

Once that's complete, you are rewarded with the game's final world, World Crown. In this world there are 3 levels, and one of them, Champion's Road, is the most difficult stage in any game I have ever attempted. I spent ages just trying to complete the level, nevermind having to complete it with each character. If anyone ever says Mario games are too easy, this is the level I will smash into their incorrect faces.
That being said, I powered through, and finally (After hundreds of lost lives) managed to 100% complete the game. A great sense of achievement from my side.
If you're a fan of any of Mario's previous platforming adventures, you will love this game. I highly recommend.
It's a highly polished Mario game. I beat it with my wife on Wii U. It was so forgettable though that I was halfway through the rerelease on Switch when my wife pointed out that we did play this one on Wii U before, and I hadn't even realized it.

The main thing that makes me sad about the Wii U's failure is how many good games didn't get to reach a large audience. 3D World falls within that group of games and towards the top of that group.
It has so much character. I remember when Nintendo employees dressed up like cats at E3 when they announced this game. I thought Nintendo was going insane. Five-ish months later, the game came out, and I would have dressed up as a cat. It is that good.
My two gripes with this game are that the difficulty never makes you sweat and you can't turn the camera (Not in a Mario 64 way). But you can throw your friends off ledges so you know I'm on board.
Also, Captain Toad is a top tier character.
Game #41/200 I played the Switch version of Super Mario 3D World, but wanted to move on to other things, so I didn't mess around with Bowser's Fury despite being interested and hearing good things. I have been on a Mario-thon lately and have spent quite a bit of time this year with new and old Mario games. This one was interesting as it is a 3D Mario title, but unlike 64, Sunshine, or Galaxy in the sense that you move through linear levels. Like the "New Super" subseries, there are 3 (usually well) hidden stars in each level and many other secrets. The game sports 4 power-ups, two of which were new, and they all are fairly amusing. The cat power is clearly the best one and can be quite game breaking but in a fun way. It enables some otherwise inaccessible game exploration, speeds you up, and give you a horizontal attack. There's also the cherry, which doubles, triples, or otherwise multiplies your number of Marios which can be fun and weird. My main takeaway is that the game had excellent level design, but maybe not the best mechanics. Besides the janky cat power, it was way too …

My main takeaway is that the game had excellent level design, but maybe not the best mechanics. Besides the janky cat power, it was way too easy to accidentally fly off of stages. It hindered the fun a bit to jump off the side of a level time and again just because of Mario's slipperiness (+ maybe I just suck). It was a lot of fun on the other hand finding stars and stickers (whose artwork I LOVED). The levels were quite fun though, although rarely groundbreaking, and featured some pretty fun segments (besides the Plessie ones, those sucked). I did find it weird how sometimes I'd be in a world with a clear theme, like desert or ice, and they'd randomly throw in a level that looked visually similar to world 1. The Captain Toad levels were also a blast. I guess I feel pretty positively about this game, but for whatever reason it didn't wow me much while playing. This was definitely more difficult than Wonder, which I didn't mind, but comparing it to that game, it's clear this Mario title wasn't exactly designed to reinvent the wheel. I would recommend 3D World to Mario fans and collectible enthusiasts in a heartbeat, but maybe I just needed to take my time with it a bit more to really appreciate it.

So I played the Nintendo Switch version. I know this Is under the Wii U version, but I wanted to make a review for Bowser's Fury on that version. So pretend this is the Switch version. With that being said
Super Mario 3D World is a game that I never got to play during the Wii U era. So I was extra excited to play this for the Switch. And It's as good as I heard it was
This game had a very weird history. The Wii U wasn't doing very well but many were looking forward to a new 3D Mario game that was yet to be announced. The E3 announcement was extremely disappointing for this reason. It wasn't a NEW 3D Mario game. It was just Super Mario 3D Land on the Wii U with 4 players.
However, many (myself included) learned to appreciate this game more after Super Mario Oddysey came out. The game is just a blast to go through
The Music is so good. It has a Jazz theme and these songs were huge in keeping my interest because it was just a sensory overload of amazing music.

The levels (Though very short) offer plenty of replayability no thanks to each level having 3 Green Stars and 1 Stamp.
There are 8 worlds with 4 bonus worlds if certain conditions are met. Making a total of 12 worlds to go through. Each are just beautiful thanks to the amazing graphics. Each level isn't too easy to where you get bored. They are all fairly challenging and even rage-inducing in some instances.
The story for once isn't about rescuing Princess Peach. You're instead saving the 7 Sprixie Princesses which is an interesting departure from other Mario games.
There are also more characters to play as than just Mario and each have their own strengths and weaknesses.
Mario is average all around. Average jump, speed, traction, etc.
Luigi has the highest jump in the game but he has horrible traction making platforming pretty difficult
Blue Toad is the fastest and strongest character but he has the worst jump in the game
Princess Peach has pretty weak jumping distance but she makes up for it with a floaty jump
And the Unlockable character, Princess Rosalina. She is the slowest character but is the only character with a spin move making jumps easier and attacking easier.
This gives you the choice to play as the character you're most comfortable with which adds a lot of replay value if you wanna try out a new character.
The gameplay carries over from the Wii U version but it included ground-pound jumps and rolling from Odyssey. We also can't talk about 3D World without the powerups. You got the mushroom, fire flower, Tanooki Leaf, Boomerang Flower, Star, the New Double Cherry, and two versions of the Cat Bell which is the main item of the game.
If you get to the top of the flagpole, get all the green stars, and stamps, you unlock the 4 bonus worlds which leads to Rosalina and the hardest level in the game. Champions Road... Good luck. You must beat every level with every character to truly 100% the game like I did.
Super Mario 3D World is a colorful and imaginative experience with lots of replay value and charm. Sure some levels are pretty forgettable and has some problems here and there (Specifically in level design). But it's a really fun game to go through

I just finished the main story, but it looks like there's some additional content I'll check out after.
Ain't nothin' wrong with this game. I mean, I went into this thinking it would be a fun little platformer and a good way to get used to the Wii U, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun it was! Not being incredibly difficult, it was a nice relaxing adventure with a cute little story about Bowser trapping fairies in bottles. That being said, I did die 156 times, so it's not exactly a cake walk the whole time.
I really like when platforming games congratulate you for thinking outside of the box, and 3D World makes good use of the third dimension. Every once in a while, there will be a secret hidden down a corridor that in a 2D game would be unavailable, so you're not necessarily drawn to it initially. It makes great use of the space.
The new power-ups are also a lot of fun. Though I initially thought the cat suit was a little childish, it grew to be one of my favourites ones. The collectibles were also worthwhile. For one, you actually need green …

For one, you actually need green stars to progress in the game, but I even thought collecting the stamps was a lot of fun. They were usually hidden in more obscure locations, and it was amusing seeing how each stamp reflected the level in which it was discovered.
After trying each character once, I only ever used Mario throughout the game unless I noticed a secret that could only be unlocked with the other characters. I could see the other characters being more fun in multiplayer, however.
Finally, the Captain Toad levels were awesome! It actually made me interested in looking up that new Captain Toad game that I heard about but didn't think much of. Great little puzzles. Overall a wonderful game!
UPDATE: There certainly is more to do after the main story, and holy bananas does it get difficult. To unlock the very last bit, you need to collect every single thing in the game, so I'll start working on that :P

Played this game until finishing the "Bowser world" before giving up on it. Felt like a chore. After being heavily dissapointed with 3d World and NSMB (DS) I guess I can finally stop playing Mario games, I just can't find the fun in them anymore :(
The worst part is having to backtrack because of those ridiculous star requirements to access the castles.
If you like Mario games, you will definitely love 3D World.
Like all Mario platformers 3D World is a good game. The levels are simple but fun to find all the secret stars and co-op is especially good with a crown being presented to the person who gets the most points. The cat suit and cherry suit are both good new power ups and overall the game is a good (if not great) Mario 3D adventure.
Voto: 10/10
Overall a fantastic game. It was a fun, challenging Mario game. Unfortunately there was one major let down and that was no online co-op. While I thoroughly enjoyed my multiplayer time with my sister and friends, when playing on my own it fell short of Super Mario 3D Land , in my humble opinion.
Best Mario game I've played in a long time. The best of 2D and 3D Mario games, with some much needed innovation. Some great throw-backs to previous Mario games. Definitely had a Mario 3 vibe. Loved this game.
Finally beat Champion's road. In easy though (Peach) but, hey, I can say it's over now. Found the camera not as good as in other games overall (worse than Mario 64 even).
Wow. What a surprise. Was expecting a nice little Mario title. But this is all the way up there with the best Mario games. This game just bursts with creativity, and it just keeps going and going. Couldn't help but go for 100%, except those last 5 stamps. F that.
Now onto Bowser's Fury, which I've only heard good things about.
Only giving it 4 stars because of Bowser’s Fury. Oh and here’s the filler text so I can actually post it.
So there are more stages than I expected in this one.
IDK if I'll bother with 100% completion (I rarely do) but the challenge of getting all the stars (and stamp) in each stage is a good way to encourage revisiting levels.
Bowser's Fury looks to be a bit of a hybrid between Super Mario 3D World and the Mario 64 style formula. It definitely looks like it is borrowing from both based on the level design, but leans more toward Mario 64/Odyssey in terms of camera movement and level freedom. It also looks to be fun, and potentially centred around
This is one of my favorite Mario games of all time. This alone justified buying a Wii U. It's a fantastic game made even better with multiplayer and there's lots of great extra content as well.
It turns out that jumping on cannonballs is not within my skill set.
Replaying levels to snag the many, many stars and stamps I missed. It's weird - the levels I played with my partner felt like chaotic gauntlets of platforming madness, but replaying alone they are super easy and straightforward. She mostly fell off ledges, so we were always on our last life. This game is such an utter delight. I want to play it forever!
I am up to world 3. It is so delightful that I am going to stop playing it until I can share it with my partner. Really wonderful stuff.
