It is the 2nd anniversary game in the series and as such shares more similarities to "Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary" than "Puyo Puyo 7". This game came out 4 months before "Sonic Generations", which is also commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Sonic games. There are 24 playable characters available, each with their own 8-stage course (similar to Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary). This game, as it's predecessor, was released only in Japan.

Some call this the best Puyo Puyo game ever, and it's easy to see why. This game is FILLED with different modes to pop puyos. It has the rulesets of Puyo 1, 2, and 3, Fever, and Nazo (mission mode). Plus, as if that wasn't enough, there's all sorts of wacky modes. One has a windmill that blows all the puyos from one side of the screen to the other. And another has a set of solid blocks on the screen to work around. One starts with a ton of puyos on-screen, and your goal is to be the first to reach a star buried at the bottom. And another lets you keep dropping puyos even while chains are going off.

The presentation is top-notch, and there's plenty of characters' story modes to play through, and bonuses to unlock. A perfect handheld puzzle game. I have this one as a PSP download on my Vita, with a Japanese PSN account. Recently a fan translation of the DS version was announced, so perhaps I'll look into that if I want to actually understand the stories.
