Update after playing quite a bit over the weekend, this game is very free to play friendly.
- Whenever the player levels up, the stamina bar is refilled by adding your total stamina cap back. The game does not seem to cap this number so leveling up when you have 20/30 stamina could have you end up with 50/30. Obviously your stamina does not recharge until you go below the cap. As you level, your stamina total increases as well. I am currently at 256/60 stamina.
- Once you have unlocked boss fights, you can play these as multiplayer co-op challenges. If you answer a request for help, it does not cost any stamina even though you get the same rewards. Additionally, if you follow the people you play with (different terminology for adding as friends) it appears that repeating battles does not cost any stamina. I may be incorrect on this, but I do know it at least reduces the stamina consumed.
- The game does not require rare heroes to progress through the story, and since there is not a PvP mode, you are not competing against a different class of player. Focusing on one color/element seems to be the way to go due to synergies between the lower level units. Even though you forfeit a potential type advantage when facing 5 of the 6 types, there is no type disadvantage in the game so you will not be punished against one of the 6 types.
The game is a lot of fun even though I now choose the auto-battle feature, because you can override it while watching if you want to aim for a specific enemy. You can also toggle auto play in the middle of battles with 2 buttons: either turning off the auto skill use only, or disabling auto altogether so that the flippers do not flip on their own. At times I find the auto play focuses too much on utilizing the gimmicks in a given battle arena and I will turn it off to focus on enemies, and then turn it back on when the boss appears.
If you are looking for a new gacha game or want a mobile game that is pick up and play friendly, but has enough to keep you occupied during longer sessions, then I recommend it. There is an alright story especially considering the localization that had to occur in the writing. I did not play this game when it was only released in Japan, so I am not certain what, if any new content may be on the horizon. I will update the review later today to include my "friend code" if you want to try it out.
