+Music is rad
+Collecting pearls and taking pics of animals is oddly satisfying
—Terrible camera
—Battling multiple enemies is awkward because there isn’t a lock on mechanic. It’s easy to attack an enemy you didn’t intend to because they walked closer to you.

—I just didn’t care for the stealth sections they threw in at about the midway point. Makes sense in the story, but it was my least fav part of the game
+-Story wasn’t bad, but I didn’t find myself invested in the characters or what was happening
Finally played through a game that I’ve heard about for so long. I feel like I’m missing something because I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping to.

This game has a lot of variety with exploring, combat, and photography with a fun soundtrack and great characters.

It's kind of strange how I came across this game. Back in the day, when I was a kid, Cosco would sell and bundle packs of games together (usually 3 in each bundle), and my friend's family picked one up for him. Needless to say, Beyond Good and Evil was one of those games. I remember going to his house one day, and I saw Beyond Good and Evil just sitting on his shelf - it looked like it hadn't been played at all. I asked him how the game was, and he told me that he just couldn't bring himself to play it because it was "scary". After looking at the box art, and reading a few pages of the manual, the game didn't look too "scary" in my opinion. My friend eventually just told me that I could have it since he knew he wasn't going to be playing it.
Later when I got home, I popped in the game and started playing it and I kind of began to understand why he couldn't bring himself to play it. Beyond Good and Evil has MANY dark undertones - government conspiracies, abductions, a dark atmosphere... this game was EDGY AF lol. Not gonna lie, I was pretty nervous playing this game as a kid, but by the end of the journey I remember being very grateful that I did. Because this had easily become one of the best games I had played up to that point. The way everything unravels just feels like it could be a super secret spy film xD. The unique world, strange cast of characters, and bumping music.... I really hadn't played anything quite like it at the time.

I really wanted to love this game. The characters are fun, the humor is great, the design is clever...but the controls are god-awful and the camera is even worse. I hate giving up on a game, but I had to do it. I suspect it would be better on a console, but the PC version is all I've got.
