Well... Beast is a bit overselling it but it's a fun party game. I never played the original but always dug the vibe its visuals and character designs gave. So much crazy Sonic Team/Dreamcast energy. This new game also has some crazy energy allright. It's a hoot if you're the right person for it. It's just a joy seeing silly animal characters dance on the screen when you're making an ass of yourself waving Joycons to Kesha's TikTok.
I was surprised how well the Joycons work in this. Once you get the hang of Joycon positioning/tilting, it's pretty easy to do the right inputs. It's not super precise though so there are mistaken inputs here and there. While not perfect, it's good enough that you feel in control and that you can get better over several tries. Weirdly, you can also play it with a Pro Controller too. I think you just use analog sticks to point to the directions.
The gameplay modes are pretty much just variations of the same thing but that's okay. I didn't really expect much else. I've yet to experience the "battle royale mode" which I've heard is pretty fun. The song list is also somewhat limited but I hope they'll sell more good stuff for it. I already bought some more songs, including Baka Mitai from the Yakuza series and Open Your Heart from Sonic Adventure.
All in all, fun lightweight entertainment that works up a sweat nicely.
