Sewer Shark is a lot better than you may think on first inspection. It was made by a company called Digital Pictures... the LJN of the Sega CD. You are a sewer pilot in a world where the upper class gets to live on the surface and everyone else lives underground. You need to find your way through the tunnels in order to get to the surface.
The gameplay loop is pretty simple here. The ship you are piloting moves forward automatically and you need to shoot down monsters in the sewers. At certain points you will be told directions to take and then you need to wait until those paths open up. If you end up taking a wrong turn (or not turning when you should have) your plane will blow up and you will need to restart. Throughout your adventure, you need to manage your ship's energy. You will start at 30k energy and it will constantly be getting reduced. Shooting your gun causes energy to be used faster and there are enemies in the second half of the game that drain your energy if you do not kill them.
The game ends up playing pretty well... but its extremely simple and looks horrible. This game actually hurts my eyes and you NEED to stare at the screen for about 40 minutes. Sewer Shark will require 110% of your concentration in order to beat. The funny thing about it is that this is actually an interactive game. Other FMV games (Night Trap) are purely just a sequence of cutscenes, but you actually get to play an okay rail shooter here.
Would I recommend you play this game? Honestly, yeah. It is the cheapest game on the Sega CD and brings you back to a completely different time in gaming. I think everyone needs to play an FMV game or two in their lifetime and this is one of the ones I would suggest playing. It is very simple and not that good... but it is good for what it is.
