I played this game start to what I assume was finish, but not because I enjoyed it, more because I was curious about the mechanics and genres that could be blended in.
In general, the game was nothing special. It did a lot of things, and none of them incredibly well.
I don't think I can recommend this to someone, let alone recommend someone buy this, but if you have it and want to spend a few hours to see what it's about, go for it.

Another game from the creator of Pony Island. It has a lot of puns and parodies on the various videogames and indie development at all. It is worth to play, but not as fun to find all the secrets and achievements.
Between the indie hits Pony Island and Inscryption, Daniel Mullins released The Hex, a game where six videogame characters remember their past while we get to play with them in different genres such as platforming or RPG.
At first, it could sound similar to games such as Evoland where videogame's history is explored through gameplay changes, but The Hex is not interested on how videogames has evolved, but on how the videogame industry has.
The game manages to mix an intriguing big story (since we are told that one of those characters is planning a murder) with the short stories of each character (about their past, their present, and what they wish their future could be).
Changing the gameplay constantly could easily become repetitive or meaningless, but Daniel Mullins manages to create a perfect experience making sure each "chapter" lasts exactly what it should, adding twists and ending brilliantly on a high note.
The Hex is an ambitious game that could have gone wrong in so many things that seeing how nicely everything ends up being gives me boundless joy.

I played Pony Island earlier this year and was enthralled with that game. I found a lot of enjoyment from the gameplay and from the unique take on storytelling. That's what led me to this game, and now I think Daniel Mullins is one of my favorite devs.
6 video game characters from different genres meet in a bar to solve a murder. It's a bit Wreck it Ralph, a bit Knives Out with a Shutter Island twist. This storytelling is just so much fun. You think you might know where it's going and then you're wrong. The gameplay is fun too! Now, it's not overly impressive or crazy fun but it feels right for this kind of game. But I do wish the characters moved around a bit faster in the bar section! The mashing of genres in this game is almost staggering. And there comes one point in the game where you have to change "planes" from 2d to isometric and it's done so well!
Then that ending. It was dark, and I loved it. I'll just leave it at that.
I am pretty excited for Daniel Mullins' next game. I will definitely be buying it day 1. …

If you like unique storytelling and a darker story time you should try one of his games. They are really fun and not to terribly long either. I think I put about 6 hours on this one. Just go enjoy.
6/10 Fait avec Gup, donc sympa, mais le jeu que j'aime le moins de Daniel Mullins, même si on retrouve sa patte.
I am a huge Daniel Mullins fan, his games are the most unpredictable experiences and that makes them worth it alone. I think inscryption really nailed the idea that this and pony island were aiming for, because it actually had amazing gameplay on top of a compelling meta-narrative. This one is ok, but a lot of the gameplay is a slog to get through. Also don’t love the art style, it feels not as strong as even pony island. But still has that great mindbending structure and unpredictability that totally makes it worth it.
Nota: 8.84
2 and a half stars. Dropped it during Lazarus / Vicious Galaxy section.
