It's stuck in the derivative phase

Curiosity of finding games similar to Kingdom Classic led me to The Wild Age, which developers didn't shy from claiming their work to be inspired from that ground-breaking, indie game. It's intended to take Kingdom's gameplay concept of third-person tower defense/management and put it into 3D perspective, with a nearly isometric view of the field.

But knowing where the devs are heading with this, there are too many similarities I'm picking up content-wise: The economic system, the enemy waves, the buildings and the units etc... It might as well be Kingdom 3D lite, because there are a few original contents like the island editor and some character customization in order but also fewer contents in comparison to diversify the gameplay for freshness' sake. I think it's natural for a creator to build something on his/her favorite game's concept and flesh it out into something with its own design. But the process didn't seem to yield enough inspirations to avoid the derivative stamp, apparently. Having played all Kingdom games and seen some developers make something substantial out of its indie-strategy gameplay concept (Regions of Ruin, anyone?),

I can only hope that devs take their players' suggestions to improve and overhaul it to something they can proudly call their own game and prove me wrong. Until then, stick with Kingdom and keep your eyes open for other alternatives.
