with out of the box settings on parallel_N64_Libretro this looked much cleaner sharper and better than the PSX Wipeout XL. Also like it, it doesnt really have a career mode. There are a few less maps to race on it seems, but phantom mode is unlocked from the beginning (I guess that's the point?) but the main attraction seems to be the challenges which progressively unlock. There's race challenges, time attack challenges and combat challenges (get 3 kills in a race)

Toss up between this being better over the challeneges and better look or XL being better over having better music (IMO) and more maps? They otherwise both feel a lot similiar to me.
