Neat Action Game With A Surprisingly Addicting Variety Of Level Styles

Preliminary: I had to go with the Genesis version since it came out first. The music is great. I have nostalgia for this even tho I'm quite certain I only ever rented the SNES version a couple of times. The biggest highlight is the setting--I will always love being around small objects as a comparable thing I dunno like I always say, the Honey I Shrunk the Kids setting.

The gameplay is decent but mostly questionable so far. The collision masks are surprisingly decent despite the large sprites, but it still feels I dunno meh. And it's hard to tell what I can and can't jump on tho it seems to be most things.

Oooo the swinging with the rope is adding another dimension to what was so far quite dull Play wise and was thinking 2 star and move on. But the unique Loko and the connection to a game and world I like warrants giving it more of a shot and this new Play mechanic may help it.

Weird I reached the baby monitor a while back but the level isn't finishing? Then I ventured real high just to explore but still can't seem to end th elevel. Bahah okay I remember going through this same process of confusion as a kid. I even had jumped on the bucket with the army soldiers. Oh goodness me and my memory I just want to jump and swing and lasso!

Day 2

Overall this is growing on me more than I expected. It definitely is uh flawed and clumsy, but better than most large sprite licensed games. Not loving this first boss, in some ways I do like it and again it's impressive as far as large sprite licensed games go, but it's highlighting some of the clumsiness, namely the way you skid and some other slipperiness.

Ehhh now a driving level. No no no. What terrible controls to boot. Finally got through that hellhole lol I'm surprised I pushed through it.'

I lovvve the nighttime/dusk windows/aesthetic of the next level after that first RC level. But the Play continues to be the thing dragging this down. There's like a delay in attacking when jumping or ducking right before it. But I got through yet another level smh. Even with bad enemy placement and the fact balloons keep being the bearers of bad news instead of positives.

Day 3

I'm confused by this second boss. I am clearly hitting Buzz with the tire? (Lol the way that wound up working was very silly and clunky, but I got through it)

I lovvvve this dimly lit arcade background enter image description here

Some of these situations demand pixel or time perfect to an extent it's annoying. Thank goodness for savestates at this point (the claw level)

Hmmm interesting. a first-person segment in a licensed action platformer lol this really is a unique licensed game imo. Good tune for this alien saving first-person level too. It gave me the Feel of the Rugrats episode and level (from the PS1 Rugrats game) of the spaceship. Wow and yea this tune is a JAM. Well I did like the level but I ran out of time? Even tho I was finding them nonstop so I don't see how I did... (ahhh turns out there's another pit to drop them off in nearer to them so I can do this. I am down to only 2 lives tho!!!)

Day 4

I've been in a gaming mood and I gotta credit this game for part of that (and just my phases) but gosh I have had no time! First we dealt with some serious financial and personal stuff. Then I had a sleep study. And now all weekend is my husband's first art show. But when i've been able to game, this game ahs been oddly hitting teh spot despite its faults

This skateboard level started out pretty strong but it's definitely resorting to the swarm-of-the-challenge-as-the-challenge tecnnique I never like. Where just having more things is the method of difficulty. But it is a pretty nice intensity. Imagining someone do this without any damage... blows my mind. And without savestates, I probly would've stopped in the first couple levels (like I did as a kid).

Oh gosh not another RC car level before the end of the game I was so close to finishing tonight! (I wound up finishing it the next day after coming home frmo the art show) enter image description here

Look: 8.5/10 Some great scenes, tho technically probly more like an 8 I loved seeing the movie come to life and the Honey I Shrunk the Kids aesthetic and good backgrounds

Sound: 8/10 Good throughout, some of teh vocal sound effects got annoying, but overall solid.

Play: 8/10 Some flaws for sure, and too hard to play without savestates, but here I was, playing through the whole thing.

Feel: 8/10 I was hoping for a more sentimental ending, but still a solid addicting game that reinvigorated my backlog action game playing even during a time I haven't been able to game much.

Attachment: 8/10 Stuck out as a kid and again now as an adult, even if it is flawed and overly difficult at times.

Overall: 8.1/10

Completion: Main Game

Playtime: ~3 hours

Failing With Style

Toy Story for the SNES looks and sounds great, but plays...well, not as great. I'm not saying I would go all Sid on it and tape a cherry bomb to the cartridge and blow it to smithereens...but I think I'd rather play with the actual toys than try to finish this clunky and deliberately difficult "platformer". Spawned in the age of video game rentals it becomes unbearable to try to control Woody, as his sprite is huge and oncoming enemies seldom gives you a chance to predict or dodge attacks.

However, the game follows the film's structure really well and there's some creative game modes for a few levels, like racing RC through Andy's room, stealthing your way across Pizza Planet inside a cup, and even a first person (!) rescue mission inside THE CLAW. Like I said, graphically impressive and charming design, but fixing the feel of the controls, hit boxes and platforming would've made it so much better.

Great visuals, good gameplay (although cheap at times)

A game with surprising visuals even to this day, with a great variety of gameplay. A game with surprising visuals even to this day, with a great variety of gameplay. The most common levels you'll find are sidescrollers, but there's also some where you'll be driving, and even a first person one! As usual with games of the time, a little unfair and cheap at times, but still a good game. Although I can't imagine finishing it on a real console, it would have taken ten times longer if I hadn't played it on an emulator with save states on each level start or checkpoint.

In short, a good Toy Story game. If you are a fan of the saga, it's worth a look.

Can we zoom-out the view a little bit?

This is Toy Story the video game, released for the Genesis and Super Nintendo. I'm playing the Genesis because the SNES version is pricier, and also it has more modes and stages to play through. While the game is marketed for Kids, do not let them play it, because it is simply an equivalent to Ghost n Goblins in terms of difficulty for the game.

For someone like me who have got the worst out of video games, this game is an absolute visual treasure with what was achieved on this game. I love it! the controls, while will get annoying at first, you get used to them very fast, and the game doesn't become much of burden, even with difficulty spikes that are famous with games from that era.

My only real complaint would be: Can we fucking zoom-out the view? like for real, this is the only reason I get hit most of the time, and the mess-ups I have is because I can't see the projectiles coming my way, or the target to go after in top-down missions.

Brutal!

Beautiful animation but very punishing challenges and hit boxes, even on a save state emulator. Still a vibe though!
