Unfortunately I found the sequel way more frustrating than the first game. On the plus side it's a more complex game, with a few ability upgrades and harder rooms that require more precision. This brought several minuses though:
- Several of the more complex rooms remain that way after you complete them, meaning re-traversing them as you went around the map majorly slowed things down and was frustrating.
- Some of the puzzle hints were pretty obscure, including a pair of rooms that relied on you figuring out an unexplained part of one of the abilities... I instead thought the hints referred to an additional upgrade, so I was surprised and confused when I only had those two rooms left with no sign of said upgrade.
- The abilities
throw pitchfork andrunning shoes (sprint) are on the same button, so you can't do the latter without doing the former (unless you still have that button held down from the previous room). That would be fine except when you need to do the former WHILE doing the latter. - Worse, both
throwing andcatching interrupt your movement and eat any button inputs... so many deaths from "failing" to jump because of that. Entering a room and restarting a room (due to dying) also eat button inputs for a moment, which is less impactful but makes rapid retries of rooms more frustrating. This bullet point is the biggest problem IMO. - Last boss is just annoying. Thankfully you don't restart on death during that fight, but that also means it's just attrition with no real skill required, unless you're trying to do a speedrun/low death run, which I wasn't.
- Secret boss is complete bullshit, until you figure out the trick, and then it's almost completely trivial.
All in all I still enjoyed myself and would recommend this game like the first, but pretty much my entire second hour (of just under two) with this game was filled with frustration for some reason or other, culminating in yelling at the secret boss. Hence why I'm here whining. :D
