I've been returning to this one, and am stoked that it has single-player bots with adjustable skill levels. They work in Conquest mode. The story was second thought, it was so weird to hear them talking about all these events and characters and unless you sit down and read the codex like a weirdo, you have no idea whats going on.

Still there was a lot of fun to be had but I hope the series can reach the heights of Battlefield 1.

After rage quitting the game and unistalling it way back in December, I couldn't bear the thought of a game defeating me. I installed the game again, and have been playing and grinding for months. Trying to understand the mechanics, doing the weekly missions, and now since there is nothing new going on until a couple of days, I have been working on collecting the trophies. So far, what I see that is going to be difficult is all the trophies involving the Hazard Zone mode. I don't know how to play it, and I have no friends to help me out and join the squad. If anyone has any tips for playing it, or even better, if you want to join the squad of a very bad player and have fun anyways, let me know!

Played this for about 15 minutes. Didn't understand a single thing and the game doesn't explain anything either. No tutorial at all. Got tired of dying every 10 seconds... not for me.

This, along with the black screen bug on PC when tabbing out to another monitor (been a problem since launch so over 2 years), makes me despair for Dice.

Time to uninstall me thinks. Been meaning to dive back into Fallout 4 and leave FPS games alone for a bit anyway.

Tried it after the updates - I mean BF4 was trash at launch but that game is goat-ed tier. Not so much this one. Literally got spawn camped by a tank on a point that the game should have players spawning on top floor where its safer than in front of a tank to farm kills. GG Dice. Battlebit FTW.

Finally throwing in the towel with this one. After 80 hours the frustration of playing with a controller is too much. After playing FPS games on PC for ~25 years, I will never understand how people play well with a controller. I tweaked the settings, I watched Youtube videos on recommended settings, and I regularly get wrecked due to an inability to use a darn controller. Now, this wouldn't be a problem if I could play with only console players, but crossplay is the only way to find a game and you're going against primarily PC users, and let's be honest, using a mouse to aim is a massive advantage.

My gaming rig is over 10 years old and can barely load the main menu let alone hit some decent framerate, and I don't have $1000 sitting around to build a new rig just to play one game. Maybe I'll try Battlebit Remastered...

I've had the strangest experience with this game.

Some background - I did not purchase it, I got it with my PS+ subscription like many others. I also haven't played a Battlefield game since 1942 (and loved it, made a lot of friends on there). Something that's missing from this game seems to be the teamwork element. The whole point of the series.

The game has voice chat (though from my research it did not launch with it, which is mind-boggling) but you can only speak to your squad. However, your squad is constantly spread throughout the map, and for some reason they can never hear me, save for a single match where I saw my voice going through and people were able to respond to me.

My main issue is that absolutely no one works together at all. You spawn, you Random Hero, ignore anyone who needs a revive, and get blown up by a tank. Over and over.

I've played about 30 matches so far and despite all of this, I'm actually having a good time and find myself wanting to play it, but I sure do wish the teamwork elements were present in here. It seems EA didn't bother because, I don't know, they didn't expect anyone to work together?

I got really into PlanetSide 2 back when it was big and had such a fun time playing within a "guild" or whatever they were called, that I found on the official PS2 Subreddit. We'd hop on Teamspeak (at the time) and man, there was nothing like it. It was hours of fun and I made some good buddies on there. It actually felt like you were battling with friends and you wanted to help each other out. Great experience.

Is this just a symptom of modern gaming that squad-based titles don't have any teamwork element anymore? I've never been into the Call of Duty games (except the first one way back when, we'd play at LAN parties) and haven't got into a console shooter since Halo 1, but I find the whole experience very strange.

There's also the issue where you need to play so much to unlock all the better weapons, so the people who are already good at the game already have the better gear, meaning you're constantly fighting an uphill battle. Alone. With a bunch of other people surrounding you.

Very odd indeed.

They plan to revisit all the launch maps to improve immersion, areas of cover, and the flow of the objectives but with only 1 map improved since the game launched I guess we might be waiting a long time. Pair this with a demand for new weapons, vehicles, skins, and maps and the team sure do have a lot to deliver.

My new favourite way to play the game now is with a minimal HUD. Still not the most immersive fps experience but it's close.

Dices recent dev update talks about their revamped vision for specialists, but are games suffering from operator / hero fatigue?

Specialists / Operators seem to be a great way to make money via cosmetics as they personalise the experience for players, however they conflict with the squad focused, gritty gameplay that the Battlefield franchise was previously known for.

Could we perhaps strike a balance between immersion and high levels of customisation / personalisation by adding new ways to personalise the experience? perhaps an in depth gunsmith style creator, vehicle editors, building decoration / customisation? As long as the customisation kept within the tone of the game I could see these being a good option for people who care heavily about cosmetics.

An article from GameStop has come out detailing the future of battlefield and the response from 2042s launch. The reveal of multiple studios being set up, new people brought in, all to manage this new 'universe' of battlefield games sounds like they're doubling down on what's gotten battlefield into this mess in the first place.

New leads are being brought in for story content and they're looking to expand into more modes and releases, but treating them more as expansions of 2042 instead of new releases, as well as looking into new business ventures that come with this approach. They're also going to be expanding existing content like hazard zone and portal.

To me though it sounds like battlefield will never be the same again. They're clearly looking for ways to optimise revenue streams, no doubt a BR mode will be announced with more cosmetics etc. I mean it's great that they're bringing in support for existing content but should the focus really be hazard zone? Who really wants that mode? How are they meant to pull together a coherent game with multiple studios involved when they couldn't do it with one or two studios working on 2042?

Holding out hope for this game but the latest update #3 that dropped today has been a huge dissapointment. Not sure what's going on with the development team here - they no doubt have talented people onbaord but they game itself is consistantly falling behind the mark.

As of today mouse users have been unable to move their cursor horizontally in the game leading to every game so far being flooded with chat messages asking whats going on. Dices official response is on their twitter and they ask people to delete a settings file that will fix the issue but will also remove all key bindings meaning you will have to rebind everything again. A very weird bug and i'm not sure how this got through their testing.

second problem which is arguably much bigger is the connection error 1004G that is stopping users from connecting to games in the first place. Disabling crossplay has helped in my case but I have still recieved the error a few times.

other small bugs such as 'no ammo' warnings appearing on screen when my gun is full, other issues such as going prone next to geometry causes your characters hands to move about randomly are still there from launch, as well as horrendous perfomance.

Really hope they pull their finger out sooner or later as the fans especially are feeling like battlefield has lost its way, not to mention the new first time players who have paid full price for a broken experience.

We have christmas skins though...yay?

Played every day now since launch and despite being a long time battlefield fan since BC2 I've finally reached a point where I refuse to play the game anymore until issues are addressed.

In February of 2021 they stated they were ahead of schedule and even scrapped the campaign presumably to focus on refining the MP experience. Yet here we are at launch with horrendous performance, no squad management, no commander, around 20 guns, broken balancing, attachments that don't work, reviving that doesn't work, respawning issues, no medic indicator for downed players, and no HUD customisability. Those are just some of the bigger issues at play without even mentioning the many, many smaller bugs.

How can a game launch like this when so much time, money, and talent has been poured into it? I think people who paid money for this product deserve answers. Perhaps the industry as a whole would benefit if Dice produced a transparent documentary style video or behind the scenes thing explaining what went wrong in a year or so. We need to be able to own up to our mistakes, learn, and move forward otherwise this will keep happening as we've seen time and time again.
