Getting back into this one but man am I instantly 100% bored with "the catholic church standin is secretly evil" plot in jrpgs. I'm not even catholic I'm just offended as a writer. I suppose it's not entirely fair since I'm more getting mad at a progenitor of this trope but man does it big down the storytelling in a huge way for me. I actually think a plot where the church was an imperfect but well meaning organization could be really interesting but FF writing has been pretty atrocious since like 8 or 9 or something anyway.

Not an exaggeration to call this game a genre-defining masterpiece. Even though I've read spoilers, I still want to experience it myself. I hear very few games have ever come close to scratching the itch this leaves after completion.

OOF! I just hit a wall hard with Cuchulainn, the Impure. I'm not steamrolling the story opponents but I'm adequately beyond them in level such that story battles aren't as difficult as randoms. Then this ball of lard rolls in, after having inspired nightmares for the past 23 years, and proceeds to rail my team like he's shipping out tomorrow …
